FBA Amazon Seller looking to move off of Webstore - HELP!

We have been an online store since 2007. Our site used to be with CartKeeper - loved the ease of use (I'm not so tech savy).

A few years ago we got pulled into selling on Amazon. Once we started doing FBA for almost all our products, the Amazon Webstore seemed like the only way to go so that our inventory would be in synch - plus amazon now warehouses most of our products.

Years have passed and I absolutely can't stand having my site through the Amazon Webstore platform. Unless you are extremely tech-savy, it is nearly impossible to make easy changes to my site. Adding things like a blog, gift registry , customized pages, etc. take weeks to research and more often than not I'm told I'll need to hire a 3rd party solution party to implement what seem to be simple adds to my site. I've wasted thousands of dollars trying to make my site what it used to be on cartkeeper yet I still have very little ability to make (what I think should be) quick changes.

Because most of my inventory is now warehoused with Amazon (plus that is where most of my sales come from - my actual site traffic is basically zero - inability to do much SEO??), I'm looking for a solution that would allow me to take back the ability to customize my site yet link to Amazon FBA for my products.

I've looked into wordpress for customization of my content pages but my site would still be through Amazon webstore so I don't think it is my best solution - plus it sounds like wordpress really shouldn't be used for ecommerce.

Anyone found the perfect solution out there that is friendly to us not so tech savy ecommerce store owners??:confused:

**Also I am a distributor of products - so the ability to link my wholesale, retail and amazon fba would be ideal.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Lisa

    Hi Lisa,

I just discovered this great post as we're in the same boat with our business. It's unfortunate no one responded. Since this was posted 8 months ago have you been able to find a solution for your store?

    Thank you, Jeff

Magento, Volusion and Bigcommerce would be fairly well supported by multichannel software like Linnworks, SellerExpress (disclaimer—that's our sister company) and ChannelAdvisor but as you're not tech-savy, I would avoid Magento as it has a very steep learning curve.

Give the others a quick spin to see if they meet your needs and ensure they talk well with your multichannel software, as you'll need such a solution to join your webstore with your Amazon inventory. Hope this helps!

  • Hi Lisa,

I work for a 3rd party inventory and order management company called SellerActive and most of our clients seem to really like their web stores through Magento, Big Commerce, or Volusion. You mentioned that you want to be able to link your inventories across all marketplaces. Our software will allow you to manage all your inventory and even process orders through one user interface. We offer free 30 day trials which you can sign up for on our website. I'd be happy to go through a virtual software demonstration with you. I hope this helps!

  • Hey Lisa,

I see some Warriors mentioned Volusion and Magento. Have you tried Shopify? We hear that's pretty easy to navigate. Full disclosure, I work for an inventory management tool, so I haven't used any of these sites personally, but based off of what our customers use, I'd say Shopify, 3dCart and ZenCart are also good ones to check out. You did post this months ago, so I really hope you already found something!

Jeff- What are you leaning towards using? Have you tried anything yet? I'd love to know how you're progressing.

Good luck to both of you!

I am an FBA seller but I am not very familiar with the Amazon Webstore platform. You did say that the vast majority of your sales come from you FBA listing. Since Amazon's site will always have far more buyer traffic than your site so why spend time and money on it? If the site has little or no traffic why bother having links to your products on Amazon?

You might want to just focus on your FBA biz and not worry about a website. Just MO !
