Registering a business in Canada

Hi,

I was talking to a dropshipping company and they said they will entertain me only if I have registered my business.

How to regsiter my business in Canada? Is this a requirement to start an E-commerce site? Is it good to have your business registered?

Also, if I am running 2 niche sites 1) Women's fashion and 2) Housewares -> Do I need to register 2 businesses?

    Hey!

    I would get a reseller license from your province ministry. Also, get a TAX ID#. IF you are trying to get credible suppliers from Canada and the US almost 99% of them will require these. It takes a few minutes to get each, and itll cost you less than $100.

    I would recommend just registering one parent company. It isn't necessary to register both so long as your parent company is registered under the category of retail/ecommerce.

      Is there anyone online who can do this for me? I am also in similar situation. What do you mean by parent company?

    I live in Calgary and when I started my business I simply went to the registry and they did a name search. And just contact rev canada for a tax number

      hey dsuitor!

      I am from Calgary, and I happened to stumble across your post about you being in Calg as well!! I have been doing a tonne of research into starting my own business in either drop -shipping or importing through the purchase of inventory!! Currently I am in Singapore and will be back likely in May but I would love to learn more about your business and the process you went by to pick a product niche etc etc!!

    I'm from Ontario and signed up for a sole prop the other day on the ServiceOntario site..$60 and you have a business number.. Will probably form a corporation down the road for tax/liability purposes but this is a good start!
