hi All,

So I got a domain name and installed OPENCART for my e-commerce site.

Not I want to Bulk Upload my products into the website. I know there are some free and premium plugins to do that. I installed the Free extension and it is not working.
Do I need to buy a premium plugin to bulk upload my products. Bulk Uploading my products is right now stopping me from launching my store. ( I sure there will be other technical difficulties too)

Can I get any help/suggestion from OC experts here?

I also tried to bulk upload from PhpMyadmin but no luck. If anyone has any advice I will gladly take it.

Did you try to upload a small amount of information at a time?
You also have to make sure that your format is correct. (i am not a pro, and have not done this in a while, but I always had problems with this too).

To be honest, you may be better off adding each product. I know it can be a hassle and time consuming, but this is where you make your website better than 70% of others that may be like you! Better product titles, better descriptions, better seo! - Something to think about.

Also - people are under the assumption that you can launch a website with a low amount of products......that is bull! You are better off adding them slowly as you grow. - I am doing well on one of my websites - selling, and quite well. I only promote 5 items a week, and have maybe a total of 30-50 items on my website at any given time.

OH YEAH - I am using opencart - and I love it!

Thanks for your quick reply. So CSV file which my supplier has given me has about 3500+ products. I was hoping to bulk import all the products. I thought thats the most time efficient way of doing it. Manually uploading 3500 would be very cumbersome for sure. So some degree of automation is a must.

But till I figure it out, i will upload perhaps 10-20 products a day and see how it goes. But still I think, automation is a must.

I would buy a premium extension if it was definatly going to work. I am so confused.

I am in Gifts and Collectibles niche.

Also do you have a blog associated with your OC website? Once I have launched my website, I will start blogging to do some SEO

Santr123, I use csv Product Upload I purchased long time ago and it it a good choice for the price ($15). I am able to upload over 6000 products with no problems.

In the beginning I had issues but I found out that the csv file provided by my supplier didn't have all the necessary fields that opencart requires. Once I added the fields then all my problems vanished

Make sure you have all the fields required by opencart. In my case I had to add

"Weight_Class" I set it up to show "Pounds"
          "Stock Status" = "In Stock"
          "Tax Status" = "Taxable"

          Hope this helps

Have you also brought the export tool.? This may be needed if you want to make mass change to the products.

            I actually downloaded this extension
            Extensions - Export/Import Tool

I manually uploaded one product on OC and then clicked Export button. It exported my CSV file. Then I added a few products to my CSV file and tried to import it back and it failed. It has to be a 2 way street. Both import and export should be working.

No I didn't buy the export tool.
I also used in the past Apsona ShopAdmin. this is a free solution with versions for several carts including Opencart. You can run your store including the option of bulk import/export from a csv file.

Does this work with latest version of OC V 1.5.6.1. Because it was last updated on 10 July 2011 and only compatible upto v1.4.9, v1.4.9.1, v1.5.0.3

Santr123, I am not sure if this work with newer versions of Opencart. I use V1.5.5.1 and both the csv import tool and apsona work for me. The file columns are a bit diferent for each one but its nothing that can be handle by somebody with some technical know-how. I prefer the csv import tool. I have written a macro in excel that takes the csv from my supplier and make the necessary changes to fit opencart format.

btw what error are you getting? are you getting partial information in or none at all?

                  Good luck

I would suggest manually uploading the products the first time. In the future you can always download the database and make adjustments and upload the whole file. However, for the first time manual adding will make sure you take care of the details.
