Clothing website? brainstorming

Hi all,

I have discovered a very good supplier of cheap clothing which is extremely good quality. I plan to start purchasing from this supplier once I finish my school exams at the end of June (long wait I know)

I wanted to try and get a wordpress website setup with Woocommerce and build the basics before I actually start buying stock and selling it on my website.

Therefore i'm trying to think of some brandable/memorable short names which would suit a clothing website... any ideas would be useful

I'm mainly going to be targeting males and females between the ages of 17-25 so I plan to use social media as one of my main marketing tools.

Besides from this I will have an ebay store where I expect the majority of my sales will come from due to the large amount of traffic there. I may possibly list the products on amazon as I have had some success selling other products there in the past.

PPC advertising may also come into this at some point but I understand there is huge competition for this including the major clothing companies.

Is this a good place to start?

anything you would do differently?

any website names ideas etc?....

Just looking for some feedback before I potentially get started.

thanks

    Hi, Saxguru,

I think it would depend on the design language of the clothing. Is it mostly lightweight casual stuff with printed designs? Or more subdued designs?

Names like "Popthreads" and "Nerdwear" make me think of themed T-shirts and geeky humor clothing, while names like "UrbanGear" and "Stahlwerk Outfitters" conjure the image of more heavy-duty, utilitarian clothing.

    But that's just me.

    Hope this helps!

To be honest there is a very broad range of clothing. Most of the items are reasonably smart jeans, jumpers, shirts, jackets etc with also a wide variety of dresses, shoes etc for women.

The supplier only sells a couple of Tshirts which don't have a set theme so I wouldn't go for a quirky name like "Nerdwear" or similar as I have such a broad range of clothing.

      Thanks

I think you're trying to go too big (varied) too quickly in a massively competitive market.

If you're keen, you need to tightly target a specific demographic first to test the market, i.e. mens or womens jerseys. I think you'll be busy enough doing that. Be prepared to invest.

The other problem is that you have picked a massively competitive market - and will potentially be up against some BIG players.

        Sorry

Despite being in a competitive market I believe it could still work, especially on eBay to start with. I have found some very low prices which means I can undercut almost anyone including the big players as my running costs will be very low.

I appreciate your advice though and I will aim at a specific demographic just to test if the idea has potential

            Great spirit,

Don't high competition let you down.
Remember money is in high competitive niches. You will only make good money in competitive niches.
Ebay is very place to start with. With good marketing plan, you will certainly make it.

Choose something with relevant search words/phrases that people are actually and actively using! As your brother^^^ said, do some keyword research; i.e "fashion, mens, men's, women, women's, gents, ladies, haute couture, clothng", etc etc.

Well, are you trying to create a brand? Or are you trying to sell clothing cheap? If you are trying to create a brand, its not enough to say, I want to target X demographic, but why do they want to buy from you? What image are you trying to portrait? What makes you hip enough to get the demographic to like you? Are the clothes trendy? fashionable? Designed for skinny or fat girls? Why are they buying from you instead of Macy's, Nordstroms or Target (sorry I am in the US)? it is not enough just to throw 10,000 pieces up on ebay and a website if you are trying to create a brand. You need to curate it.

Tell us what image you are trying to portrait and we might be able to help you.
If it is just a cheap clothing boutique stick with that theme.

I agree with Ian Jackson and OnlineStoreHelp. The market category is so broad that you could get lost in the crowd, even with clever marketing.

My two former businesses succeeded to a large extent because I specialized. Once my specialist reputation was built, I was able to add other product types, because my loyal customers asked me for them.

datingworld said that you only make good money in competitive niches. I believe that you can make really good money in any niche if you buy right. In my view profit begins with buying, and that is why I say go direct to the manufacturer and forget about wholesalers or dropshippers.

Whatever you do, don't try to be another so, so website that people will forget.

Take the time to build a brand.

You're either going ALL-IN or your're going broke.

I agree build a brand. I have a friend that started Amazing Lace as a lingerie only site, using Volusion. She is now taken it for full blown womens clothing and is kicking butt.

While I am not a big fan of Volusion, if you are thinking about starting a clothing store, you should check out the website because in many respects they have done it right.

      Size Charts: check
      Shipping: check
      Free Shipping: check
      Return Policy: check
      Easy Menu Structure: Check
      Clean Design: check
Real Models: Check (with size they are wearing in picture to boot)

What needs to be fixed to make it amazing:
No mobile site, either responsive or mobile CSS, big No NO, especially for the crowd they are targeting
Create Sub-Categories to allow customers to parse out what they want to see, Ex. Under Bottoms, sub categories of Pants, Shorts, Skirts

Other then those things, others can learn from it if you want to do a clothing line. Thanks for sharing your friends website.

Giving unique brand name is the best ideas. Became a popular by brand name is the great.
Make short name of brand hence it is easy, one can easily mind it.
Over the internet there are various online stores who supply promotional products, corporate clothing and many more at one online store.
