I want to create a site with option of visitor choosing location (or auto choosing based on IP) - will be either US or UK, then products listed would show available in that country and with that currency. Can I do this under one domain, or is it better to have 2 domains, one for each country?
To clarify, products will be shipped from each location
Do you know if any paid or free shopping carts will handle this easily, or advise best way to accomplish this.
Thanks in advance

Magento can easily do this and likely other platforms as well.

Opencart can do this nicely - it can even have different URLs for each country per page. Also there are some extensions that can automatically translate page contents to another language. Basically it's like generating additional Google traffic for each language you add.

Please check the following module, your visitors will be automatically directed to pre-defined stores based on their IP, they can manually switch the stores as well, read more here

I think Magento is best for you. We are running sites across 9 countries with Magento. Go for it. It is best

Opencart and Prestashop can do this too. You don't need different domain. One domain could be used for all languages. Yes, user can select language and carriers can be set for each country. Like others said this can be done with Magento too. In fact, most of the ecommerce scripts support that.

Based on the fact that it seems like a number of both paid and free shopping cart applications will give you the functionality that you're looking for, I'd put a pin in that one and set about finding the shopping cart that does that, as well as all the OTHER stuff you're going to want to be able to do with your webstore.

It seems like there might be some other unique functionality that'll come along with that location-picking feature, so I would look for something that will be able to handle everything you want to put into it.

it's better if you start with 1 domain first.
You can create subdomains based on country.
If your site is running properly, you can begin to consider making a special domain for each country.
