I have an e-store selling cat climbing furniture that is about 6 months old. I've done some social media and some PPC but sales are really slow. There is a similar website for sale on Flippa that has some products I haven't been able to get. It is a little newer than mine, and would certainly need the same amount of marketing.

Would there be any advantage to buying a second website in my product category and running them both? Thanks Warriors!

If you aren't making money with your first, it prob wouldn't help to spread your focus..

Are you selling the cheap chinese made stuff? That's probably your problem, that stuff is selling for much less on eBay and Amazon.

I own a cat tree website myself (CatTreeDepot.com - High-Quality Cat Trees at Wholesale Prices!) and have been doing 1-2 sales per day, I started the site back in January. I may consider selling it if you're interested, that would be the only way to get into their drop-shipping program as they are not accepting new drop-shippers.

Thanks for the info. I am not selling the cheap Chinese cat furniture, although I do have some Armarkat models. I can't compete on price with Armarkat. I do have very competitive prices on Majestic, Kitty Mansions and Molly & Friends. The ones I can't get in to are Trixie, GoPetClub, and Ware Manufacturing. I was really looking for advice on whether it would be beneficial to pick up a second website (if the price was right) that would have access to those suppliers. You can look at mine at Find Cat Trees and Condos, Cat Beds and Accessories for Sale | TheLaughingCats.com. Thanks!

        LaughingCat,

        I totally agree with sweetcrabhoney18.

Show your products and tell visitors what benefits they get.
You've to improve your site. Looks real poor, unprofessional.
The cat at the top doesn't look happy at all.
Suggestion...place photos of cats playing, resting, etc with
        your products. Show Value.

Many thanks for your input. I'm interested in your comment that the site looks "poor and unprofessional". Would you be willing to share some sites (particularly for cat gear) that you see as being professional and good "sellers"? I would be interested to hear what features call out to you on a website. Thanks again!

Armarkat and Go Pet Club are the cheap Chinese ones I was referring to, they never sell well because they are very poor quality and unless you can sell them for what they sell for on Amazon/Ebay I would not expect any sales.

The first thing I would do is get better pictures, you need a cat on there to show relative size of the product. For example, check out one of my products here: http://www.cattreedepot.com/image/ca...-2-350x350.jpg

You should try to add more products to your home page, and get rid of the cat pictures.

As a shopper ; I wouldn't buy from your store. I want to see cat products not cat pictures. However cute they are ; if I'm in the mood to shop let me shop. Changing the design of your homepage to sell instead of inform might be the key to making more sales consistently.

If sales are slow, I believe there is something you have not gotten right yet. I suggest you look inwards instead of spreading.

I am in agreement. The main goal is to be e-commerce friendly (easy to navigate, easy to see the products, their descriptions, and easy to purchase). The next goal, is to be able to be search engine friendly and market your website and products.

If you are in or sell to the United States, PM me......I can help you!

    Good Luck.

I'd reinforce the idea of a redesign for your site -- it's the very, very first thing that I thought when I arrived.

Here's the thing, too -- your target audience is a PASSIONATE bunch! (I say this because I'm part of it. It's embarrassing how many pictures of my cats I have on my phone/tablet, as a 27-year-old guy living in LA.)

You can REALLY do great work with your site if you focus on its brand. I know, this sounds new-agey and lame, but if you can come with some nifty branding for your business, redesign your site, and incorporate those brand elements well, you can really have a home run on your hands.

Hire a freelancer to help you come up with some easy branding guidelines. You don't have to spend a ton of money doing this, because you don't really need to go overboard. Just some good guidelines will do. Re-design your site with stronger imagery, more engaging copy that really sells your inventory, and focus on appealing to the lifestyle that comes along with your products.

You sell cat products, so if you really want a great way to do some cost-effective marketing, I'd think about content marketing. Start a blog, and/or work with a freelancer to create and curate content that revolves around cat ownership and pet lifestyle in general. Publish content that'll help people who have cats, but isn't necessarily related directly to your site and/or your products. If you can do this well, your site will become a resource that people visit even when they're not looking to buy cat furniture...which thereby makes your site the first place visitors will go when they DO want cat furniture. You'll build trust and authority within your niche, and Google will totally love you for it.

    Hope this helps!!
