How can I sell more products?

I run an online ecommerce site selling clothing and I was hoping to hear from everyone on what I could do to possibly increase my sales. I physically have all of my products in stock at my office.

Does my site look professional? If not what is it missing?

I re launched the site this month so I only managed 2 sales so far. Word of mouth locally I heard is good but I want to expand it across the country and I was thinking about starting with google adwords.

I use Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to promote the brand currently. Anybody recommend other strategies that have proven to work?

Thanks!

    Hi

Please can you elaborate a bit on the actual situation at the moment? Is the problem with generating traffic or is it with conversions on your website? In all honesty I feel you have got an amazing website and some cool products in there. may be you will find better answers if you can ask more specific questions with some relevant data.

Also may I suggest you try to sell your products in your brand name at various online market places like ebay.com, amazon.com etc? That way you can leverage on the massive traffic that these sites attract on a daily basis.

For starters, the theme you're using is probably the most common theme used right now for e-commerce sites next to Avada, maybe make some more customizations to stand out from the crowd a bit?

Do you make the clothing yourself? Some of the photos are blurry and out of proportion.

Traffic is the main problem right now. I have almost 2K likes on Facebook and 4K followers on Instagram but the clothing line has been inactive. I have a campaign out on Facebook boosting a post and another campaign to gain likes.

As far as customization on the shop, what do you recommend?? Should I keep the slider there?

Are the photos blurry on the home page? or when you click the products?

As far as the products, I had my designer design them and I had them all printed. I have all products physically in stock. I just need a way to generate traffic. I have a $100 free adwords coupon if I spend $25 I may get ready to use also.

    Hi

I know this may sound strange coming from a seasoned eBayer and Amazon seller, but when I coach clients who sell clothing a great method we have found is go back to basics, do fashion shows, hire a hall and sell face to face.

Then in each bag include a flyer to your ecommerce stall........ This works time after time, and over time will bring traffic and buyers to your sites.

This is all a numbers game....

How much traffic do you have?
    What is your conversion rate?

To get more sales you have to increase 1 or both of these.

I checked in AWSTATS through my cpanel and this whole month I am averaging 60 visitors per day it says. Today I received almost 125 and yesterday I received 160 it says. I have 3 listings on ebay so hopefully that drives in some traffic but I see Facebook, Warrior forum and another forum is the highest % rate for my traffic right now.

I am also thinking about attending musical events, handing out merchandise and stickers. I have a sticker machine at my house. And also attend car show events and set up a vendor spot.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9112552].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author kjamesnv
You should really consider Google Analytics. Its free and significantly better than AWSTATS. Once you have good stats then you need to know your conversion rate (conversions / visitors).
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9112564].message }}

When I tried google analytics, I go to get my code and it brings me to the agreement terms but it doesnt show the button in my browser. Its like its hidden or something??

Im going to attend some local events. Even some that are over an hour away and hand out stickers, shirts, flyers.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[9112762].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author kjamesnv
The biggest mistake that I see eCommerce rookies make again and again is not focusing on conversion rate. In many cases not even knowing the conversion rate.

You could go to 50000 local events but if your conversion rate isn't adequate then you are simply spinning your wheels.

On the other hand, if you obtain a REALLY good conversion rate then its possible to scale up your traffic and do huge volume.

I am not saying its easy to obtain great conversions - its not. It takes a lot of work.

If you have the resources, definitely keep experimenting with paid channels like Facebook ads and Adwords.

Use Facebook ads to grow your list...send ad clicks to an opt-in page with an incentive to join your list.

Try Adwords to drive clicks directly to product category or specific product pages, with a real discount (more than 10%). Be careful with Adwords though. In almost all cases, you will not get enough clicks with the $100 free coupon to have the volume of data you need to determine it's effectiveness. A good rule of thumb is that it will take in the neighborhood of $500 in Adwords spend before you start seeing actionable results. Be sure to use daily limits, negative keywords, and exact match phrases to control spending.

You need targeted traffic, as we all do. Research ways that other clothing companies have been able to drive targeted traffic to their sites.

    Good luck.

There is a metric tonne of great advice in this thread -- just thought I'd lead with that.

Someone way up there suggested also putting your merchandise on marketplaces like eBay and Amazon. This is really, really sharp advice, and is absolutely what a lot of online-first retailers are doing. Many online retailers have storefronts on Amazon and eBay, where it's become a lot easier to set up something like a branded page that looks and feels the way you want it to.

Solid Commerce can actually help you out with that. Our software is designed to help online sellers and retailers manage all of their inventory and eCommerce operations across multiple sales channels. So you manage everything from inventory to customers to shipping and fulfillment -- on multiple channels -- right in one place. It's pretty cool, and you can take a look right here: Inventory Management Software, Listing on eBay & Amazon Marketplaces |

Another great thing you can do is really take your social media efforts to the next level.

You seem to have a good amount of followers and likes on Twitter and Facebook, respectively. Are those all organic, if you don't mind my asking?

On Facebook, it seems like you get a bit of engagement here and there, but never more than one person per post.

I think your site and social networks are actually ripe for a really good content marketing plan, which is actually relatively easy and cost effective to set up and execute.

It kinda starts with your blog. Instead of just talking about the company, as your first three posts have done, try creating and curating content that caters to the lifestyle your brand aims to represent. Write about the culture and lifestyle you think your customers want to read about. You mind want to find a marketer or blogger to help you do this. Finding a freelancer online should be no sweat, but hiring a marketing person full-time might be worth it, because there is a LOT that can be potentially be done with your setup.

Once you've got a blog going, have your social channels reflect that content...but in their own unique ways. Publish really interesting visuals and videos on Facebook, because that's one of the best places to do that sort of thing. On Twitter, engage in the conversation. Talk about fashion, and about lifestyle. Engage with thought leaders. Follow people who have engaged with your brand, and join in on their conversations when it's appropriate for you to do so. There are a lot of ways you can be leveraging your social channels to actually engage with your audience, stir up a conversation around your store, and drive some serious traffic to your site.

I'd definitely go with some promoted posts on just about any channel you can get on. Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, Google+, and Twitter are all crazy important for you. Yours is a lifestyle brand, so you can leverage seriously all of those social channels in a REALLY big way, and it won't cost you very much at all to do so. All you need is some creativity -- an eye for good imagery, maybe a knack for some wordplay here and there, and a way to plug into the kind of content that your audience and customers really dig.

    Hope this helps you out!!

Hello bsurb, we are also run an online ecommerce site selling clothing but we sell many products PER Day. To help you out, I'd like to give you some suggestions.

    My suggestions are:

    1) Try to get more organic traffic from search engines especially Google. Find some relevant and lower-competition keywords for your website, and start using it describe your website, services and products. And, you should get more relevant and high-quality inbound links. For a small business, Google is a great and important way to get traffic.

    2) Try to join some relevant community and let other members know about you not just Facebook, Twitter. For example, I also promote my website via FB, twitter but I also join the community for Lolita dress EGL community on livejournal. Just remember that when promoting website via social network or community, you should contribute to other members and the community should be active (Many active members like worriorforum).

In conclusion, we may all know the ways to promote a website online. However, we may didn't do every method well enough. If you can make full use of one promoting method such as Facebook, the traffic to your website will be surly increasing. So, be patient and stick on it! Good luck!

  • How are you boosting your Facebook post? Are you boosting to your Facebook page likes or are you getting into the nitty-gritty of Facebook demographics. Is it working?

The site is ok (it needs customization - I really never liked the Bazar theme) but you really have no calls to action (the pop-up annoyed me). What's the incentive to buy? There's nothing drawing my eye to anything. Think about what makes you buy when you visit your favorite online shop. Scarcity, models, promos, buy1get1 or having the clothing matched with hot styles.

New pair of Jordan XIs come out tomorrow morning well pair one of your shirts that matches it. Show a green pair of sun glasses to go with it as your facebook ad. Target males 16-30 in major metro areas who like Nike & Jordan with the ad. Bid low, test & test again.

Hello bsurb, i would work on a content marketing strategy, increase post by week, do guest posting in other blogs , comment on other blogs, forums, and use some Automated Multi-Channel Fulfillment to list your products on amazon, ebay, etsy, play, etc.
Use tools like followerwonk or topsy to locate the influencers at your niche and see the way you can make a deal with them to help you to promote your products.
Check your alexa rank, everyweek and see if you are doing good, you need to work hard on this, you are now at 2.2M in Alexa, you will notice a change in your sales probably when you reach 500K, write your strategy write dates to reach your targets.

    Good luck!

My advice, the website needs some work. The outside, nice but, I see no H1 title, I see no meta description, no alt tags. I also did a search " yourwbsite" and very few listings for you. Have you indexed every single product page? who is your target market, type those key words into google, look for the first blog that pops up, look at it, and see if you can pay them 20 bucks to run a banner ad for a while. Do you know what your key words are for your target market? That is the work I think needs to be done, but thats mho.

Try to optimize your website page loading speed (Latest Performance Report for: http://cmfaclothing.com/ | GTmetrix), it took me some time before it the webpage loaded fully. I checked one of your products for example and the on-page seo optimization wasn't good enough. You need to optimize each product by giving a good title, meta description and meta keywords. Take this for example: CMFA Clothing
there are no product specific title, meta description & keywords.

Your website keywords are too competitive and not well researched. Keywords like this: Clothes, Tees, Tanks, Men apparel, women apparel, men clothes, reckless,.. won't take you anywhere.

You need to get all these things right first before thinking of making sales. Other points mentioned previously are also key.

Oh man -- Pinterest could potentially be a HUGE boon to your business. Especially since yours is a lifestyle brand. Lifestyle is what Pinterest is ALL about. I would make sure you don't limit yourself to posting only pictures of your clothes.

Don't get me wrong -- having really interesting/professional-looking images of your inventory is REALLY going to help. But alongside that, you've got to make sure to create and curate images that relate to your audience's LIFEstyle. This will get you followers, trust, and a constant level of attention.

There are a ton of helpful articles online about how you can use Pinterest and blogging and social to market a lifestyle brand like yours. If you want a bit more specifics, you're more than welcome to shoot me a PM.

Purchasing likes and followers on Facebook or Twitter is almost never a good idea. You might inflate your numbers, but this doesn't really translate into conversion in a really big way for you.

What's more is that you might be buying the likes and/or followers...but that's all your getting. And when you're trying to run a successful social media marketing campaign, you're main concern isn't getting a ton of likes and followers -- it's engagement.

Likes and followers don't mean anything if those accounts aren't actually engaging with your page -- that is, liking, sharing, and/or commenting on the content that you post.

I'd stick to building your audience organically, by posting content that you know they will find interesting/entertaining/informative.

I'd also make sure to add a Pinterest link at the top of your site. It should go right next to the Facebook, Twitter, and blog icons you've already got up there.

And again, your site looks awesome. Kudos.

I can't stress enough how well a blog would do on your site, too, in terms of traffic and SEO rankings, if you can get some good blog content on there and turn it into a source of actual editorial content.

Lots of good advice here. Definitely use pinterest and instagram to promote all of your products. But I would focus first and foremost on the website. It needs improvement. Hire a writer to write better product descriptions for you. I looked at a few of your product descriptions and was completely turned off. It screamed unprofessional to me. I would not trust sharing my credit card information with your website. The pictures are also of poor quality. I didn't know if the products were privately branded or if it was an automated website just pulling in random products from someplace. The images don't have a consistent look. Either use models in all of your photos or don't. There needs to be some sort of consistency. The products, however, look great. But your website isn't doing your merchandise justice. Pair your t-shirts with a model wearing trendy jeans and fashionable sunglasses. Show off your fabulous clothes. Hire someone to customize your website, add a catchy logo. After you've made the changes to your website, then you can focus on getting traffic to it.

Local promotions are always a good place to start. Who is your target market? Call up some local bars, clubs, restaurants, colleges, boutiques, meeting event planners (scavenger hunts, dating events, pub tours). Host a fashion show or give out postcards.

You mentioned that you have a facebook fan page and some of that traffic is going to your website so that's good. Now you just need to work on converting that traffic.

Do you recommend any woocommerce themes? I was using Bazar shop but it looks like its too much for what Im looking for...

youngandreckless.com I love this type of layout. Nice, clean and simple.

Lots of good advice. To ramp up your sales quickly, Google Adwords is the way to go. You need to educate yourself a bit on Google Adwords so you dont lose all your money on useless keywords.
Yes, if possible, hire an expert i.e an Adwords professional to get started. Once you learn the ropes, it's fairly straight forward. As others have mentioned though, customer acquisition costs with ecommerce are vital and Adwords is an expensive route.

If possible, try to grow organically via methods mentioned such as SEO and social media etc.

  • I have visit your website and found some ERRORS which are not good for your website. In my opinion you need to perform Search Engine Optimization which is included On-Page and Off-Page Optimization as well as you need to do proper Image Optimization.
Also you need to do Social Media Marketing and also promote them in your local community.
After proper Website Optimization your website will come on the TOP or 1st page on the major search engines, so if your website come on the TOP so definitely website traffic will increase and you will get genuine inquiry from the serious buyers.

Build your brand continuously, if this is all your own gear. Selling clothes online is all about the brand which can be built through social media, YouTube and advertising which are all hard work. If you're failing to bring in the traffic you want right now then I would suggest some really creative blogs, tweets and Facebook advertising to build interest. It should be relatively easy to 'look like an established brand' online. Whatever you do, just know who your target audience is and try to reach them 'above the noise' with some really creative marketing. Best of luck--your site looks really well.

Clothing is a highly competitive market.

In fact, Ashton Kutcher's t-shirt just closed despite millions of dollars in VC funding.

So, what hope have you got?

Step 1) Figure out what's different about your offering, and then go hard on that.

I can see that on your Our Family page you've got some cool looking people running the store. However, the store itself doesn't have recommendations from these people, or 'as seen on', or even blog posts about the cool places these people have been while wearing the clothes.

Your 'offering' is actually your unique voice.

It's your team's opinion on what is cool and what is not. It's how you speak - casual or formal. The lingo you use - cool or edgy. What you care about - fashionable or cutting edge.

This is usually the differentiator for stores selling fashion items, and what helps them carve out their market niche.

Otherwise, without having a unique voice, your store and products are pretty much the same as every other t-shirt seller out there, at a glance.

Step 2) Write about what you care about. Use your unique voice from step 1.

Your blog is seriously lacking in anything interesting. No content that t-shirt buyers would care about.

You need to post at least 2 to 3 stories each week to get some momentum going.

I absolutely promise you that your best blog stories will start to attract a lot more visitors. Even casual visitors who don't buy will have a positive impact on your 'Quality Score' with Google, and that will result in higher search ranking.

This is very slow to take effect, but it does happen. Be patient. Get started now.

This article might help you get started - Learn How To Write Compelling Blog Headlines For Your eCommerce Store - Small Revolution.

Scroll to the bottom of the article and you'll see a bunch of headline titles. Some of them are a bit spammy, but used in moderation they can at least get you started.

    Why you should blog?

We have one blog article in our store that brings in double the traffic of our home page. (It is called '13 Idea To Sell More At Your Market Stall'.)

Once we realised that this page was bringing in a considerable volume of traffic we changed its appearance so we could drive casual visitors over to product pages. It now includes 'call-to-action' for products, rather than just being a feel-good article.

It doesn't make us a lot of money, but it makes some. Considering the cost of writing the page, it offers great ROI. And of course, when you have 50 blog posts then the effect multiplies.

Step 3) Your product descriptions need more content

As you know, Google likes content. A lot.

So ... the most important pages on your site are your product pages and yet you have LITERALLY no content about your products!?

This will teach you how to write better product descriptions --> https://sites.google.com/site/ecomme...t-descriptions

Without good quality content on your site PPC will be just about worthless. It will just suck money from your account.

You've got to do the marketing + improve your website & blog. Make the homepage look great and product pages more informative: add testimonials, ratings, call to actions, use emotional triggers, product descriptions, improve the checkout etc

As for the promotion - watch Derek Halpen's videos (SocialTriggers). He has a marketing/psychology blog and explains how to sell, promote and how to grow your biz. His videos are great.

Lots of good advice. To ramp up your sales quickly, Google Adwords is the way to go. You need to educate yourself a bit on Google Adwords so you dont lose all your money on useless keywords. Focus on 5-10 top keywords and limit the keywords to phrase matching which will more target your ad.

PPC is a good way to start generating quick sales and build some customer base. Also, you should focus on building a list with some sort of opt-in list where you offer your prospective customer a coupon or something free that they can get if they subscribe.

Building a list will enable you to market to them in the future. Also, continue to work on organic SEO work. Blogs are always good to help get better ranking.

One other thing we have done successfully is do a Press Release. This will also get you some traffic and possibly exposure on big news or blog sites if they carry the ad. Make the press release about some unique story that incorporates your brand such as your success story etc.

    Good luck.

Ignore SEO and focus on AdWords... you have no idea what keywords bring buyers yet, so optimizing your site around keywords that may not convert would be a waste of your time and resources. Use AdWords to test a variety of keywords and then later if you really want to bother with SEO you can optimize for the words that brought in the most sales. I would spend no less than $3,000 on a keyword test. You're trying to build a brand, you need an adequate budget to do this. You also need to reserve a portion of that for remarketing (again this can be done with AdWords), so your visual ads are following people around if they visit your site and don't purchase.

I'd also dial back the Facebook stuff during this period - you need buyer traffic, not "fan" traffic. I think a lot of products are cool enough to Like their Facebook page, but that doesn't mean I'll ever buy them. Marketers will bang their heads against the wall wondering why they get so many Likes and so few sales, when really it's the wrong audience. Use your Facebook page as a consumer engagement platform, not a marketing one.

If you already have that many likes and follows on Facebook and Twitter, then it seems like you have a steady following. And more than just focusing on the appearance of your website, you should focus on how you can foster the relationships you have with your follows.

The best thing you can do for your customer is not treat them like a one-time transaction; you should make accommodations to give the buyer a satisfactory experience, along with an incentive to return for more of your business.

That's why you need to have an established relationship with your customers. Always remember to gather and retain all the data and information for each one. The more you know about their history with your company, the better equipped you are to plan ahead and adapt your products or services for them.
Taking it an extra step, using email marketing is also a convenient way to manage your contacts and send them personal and professional emails with updates about your company, promotions, giveaways, etc.

Benchmark Email has teamed up with Salesforce to create a great free plugin for all online businesses to use. You can safely connect both your email marketing account and CRM account together, thus providing better service to your customers!

Put 20% of your profit back into advertising, as amcg said advertising is your friend. Use ppc advertising as well as social media advertising build up a list of past customers and send them a list of offers and new stock every few weeks. Id rather a list of 5,000 past customers than 5,000000 random email addresses.

Also get a flyer printed with a few 10% off vouchers on it and one 15% off voucher. send it to your customer with there order and explain that recomendations from friends is the best form of advertising. if they liked your service to give the vouchers to there friends and keep the 15% off code for themselves. some will use the codes and never give them away but you still get return customers others will bring you new customers. From my experience this form of advertising is a gold mine as it costs nothing but a printing cost.

    1. You have to increase your number of products in your website.
    2. You need to put a better pictures on the website (more proffesional)
    3. Open a Fan Page on Facebook and post pictures and sales all the time.
    4. Open a Facebook campaign, I recommand mostly to weman (they buy allot)
    5. Make banners and advertise them on another Fashion websites at the countries you sell for. You need to do it with Google adwords.
    6. Advertise on Facebook groups that talk about fashion or teenagers groups (I see you have products for teenagers).
    7. Think about other ways to bring more traffic - SEO services ect.

Hi, your site looks nice enough but one thing i would suggest in order to make more sales/ get bigger sales is trying to cross sell more items or promote other similar or related items when a customer adds something to their cart or browses an item. You could do this by adding pictures under the description area or to the right of your main images with a heading such as " you may be interested in this".

The two main ways to sell more products is to 1) increase the average order per customer (usually by upselling or cross selling other items) e.g if you go to Mcdonalds and ask for a Big Mac they ask you if you want French fries and a drink and then ask you if you want them large.

The other way to get more sales is to increase the number of new customers but this takes more time and costs more in the long run as it is often much easier to keep/retain customers rather than find new ones.

    Hope that helps

It says "Come In" in fairly large letters right under the tree. You've gotta click on through!

(Incidentally, I would think about using that splash page to your advantage. Maybe put an email capture lightbox there? You can be doing something with that first page, though I do lie the design of the tree and the way it kind of conveys your overall aesthetic.)

Anyway, CONSISTENCY is what you really want to go for here. Consistency is everything for you. If you've started with some content on your blog? Keep it up. Social, too.

You might not be able to come up with something that goes viral, and your content might not be getting thousands of hits right away. But that's OK! At the beginning, you've GOT to be consistent, or you won't be able to pick up any traction at all.

It's frustrating, at first. Because if you're not getting the content you want to your blog, you can really lose the motivation to post. But if you don't keep posting, you won't get that traffic in the first place. It's an interesting kind of cycle, but it's one that's broken through consistency.

      Hope this helps. Good luck!!

It absolutely does. Design is a HUGE part of doing anything online...not just businesses.

The Internet is an incredibly visual place. Smart design can quite honestly make or break a website's success, not to mention have strong effects on how well it performs in search engine rankings.

I would make sure to focus on a smart, responsive, modern design. There are a ton of free WordPress themes that meet these criteria, and if you can afford to drop $80 on your business, you'll be able to find a GREAT premium theme that will have you looking like a real, live publication.

      Good luck!
