Hi,

I am just wondering how do you guys here deal with returns product for dropship business. Do you ask your customer to send back to you or the supplier? If return to the supplier your customer will surely know that you purchase from them. If the product return to the supplier company do they replace another one for free or extra charge? Also who pay for shipping for return goods?

Another question, in case the product is missing or defect from mishandled by shipment, I am wondering who is responsible for this even it isn't your and the supplier fault?

This is a tricky area and there are several factors to consider.

First, what is the return policy of your vendor? Do they accept returns? Do they charge a restocking fee and if so is it even worth sending returns back to them? If you are equipped to ship orders sometimes its advantageous to keep some inventory on hand.

Second, are you concerned with your customers knowing the source of the products? If so you might consider having returns sent to you. Its an extra hassle but somewhat protects your source. However clever customers can probably figure out where packages originate from anyway.

I only drop ship a few things, but I always have items returned to me. Some I can return and I do it once a month. Other items I cannot return so I put them on clearance on my website at a discounted price to get rid of them. It's just easier to keep track of for me.

If the return is due to my error, I refund the shipping cost to the customer. If they ordered the wrong item or size or whatever, then the customer pays.

Usually this is covered by the shipping company UPS or Fedex and I notify the shipper so they can file a claim and send a replacement. If they shipped the wrong item, they ship the correct one free. This is bound to vary though with the company you are working with, so ask them their policies before using them.

As a supplier, I can tell you something about our return policy. If the return is due to our products problem, we pay for the shipping cost. If customers ordered wrong items or just dislike the products they brought, they need to pay for the cost. We ask customer to fill a RAM form and send it with the products to our address. I found some dropshippers ask their customers sent directly to us.

There is no doubt that merchants should be responsible for the missing or defect items by shipment.

Agreed to your points. The basic is it all depends upon the return policy of merchant. Before ordering any item(Customer) or dropshipping the item(Dropshipper) it is prior to read the return policies of merchants what they have mentioned in their online stores/portals.
