Does my eCommerce site suck?

Hi all,

The store I work for has an eCommerce site up, developed with WordPress, and I'm in charge of running it.

Dr. G's BrainWorks | Your Brain Fitness Store & More

We sell brain games, etc. We're going to expand the site's offerings soon to include databases of activities you can do with kids/seniors to help maintain cognitive wellness.

Anyway, I inherited this when I came on and I was wondering if the site looked trustworthy at all, what your thoughts are, is it amateurish, etc. :p

Any help would be appreciated!

    Looks good to me

My only two suggestions would be put some color into that top area (where your logo is ) too much white for my eyes and compared to the rest of the site - even just a colored border for the top part

And add your trust logos to the top of the site - you have them tucked down to the bottom right hand side right now

    Nice looking site!
I agree with the two recommendations that Aussie stated.
A bolder border or even a slighter darker colour to fill that box in where the logo is. Just so it isn't all white.
I would move those trust logos to the top right page of the site near the cart icon.
Small things but overall it is well done.

It looks really good to me too. It was slightly slow to load for me...you may want to make sure it loads as quickly as possible so that you don't lose anyone who gets frustrated waiting!

You did really well with that WP site. I like how you laid out your homepage with a lot of product and you basically covered everything there. I would suggest making your product images smaller on the homepage so you can fit more products and also as a consumer I personally find it easier to shop when I can see more that 3 products on a scroll. Best of Luck!

Looks ok. You might want to think about the scale/spacing and maybe your footer color palette.

The Cognitive Focus Areas should be a well defined area and easier to read.

That's just the mom in me. It's a nice looking website.

You can have the prettiest store in all of the world, but if it doesn't attract visitors or make sales then you've got nothing

OSE would suggest that you've not got a lot of either of those - Open Site Explorer

Your store, from a design perspective, looks just fine. There's nothing to worry about. It is good enough.

However, it looks like you need to concentrate on the product descriptions and content in the store pages. Then, at least, you'll start to get more visitors.

Whoever is doing your blogging is doing it well. They're writing good headlines and linking between posts. The posts could be a tad longer and include different types of information (i.e. quotes, testimonials, images, illustrations etc.)

I would ask your blog writer to learn how to write product descriptions and then fix that up for you. You'll find that Google likes product descriptions that offer more information, comparison data, fun information, use cases etc.

    Here's a how-to guide if you/they want to learn: https://sites.google.com/site/ecomme...t-descriptions

    No offense, just honest opinion.

Your site does NOT look good. Maybe the design is "pretty" but that's the last thing you should care about. Just noticing the top positioning, CTA use, colors, and simplicity - I can easily say that your site is not using it's full potential. AKA it's not converting well enough, and therefore not selling enough. (Or at least as it should be)

    Hi,

It's looks good and attractive as well as more user friendly, from my side i suggest you make one big sliding banner instead of 4 small banner which should contain all your basic Game detail with images. Rememberer one thing that images tells more than words, so it is looks more pretty and eye catting if you use if you want any help then please feel free to ask me .......

    Nice, good job with that!

Do remember to build some traction with that! Looks are not the only part to play in sales

    I think it looks great!

Personally, I would add a text based category section to the right of the site since most people are accustomed to seeing it either on the left or right side of the web page. With your use of images, it somewhat blends in with the products.

I might scale down some of the images Since they're rather large, they're somewhat distracting and overwhelming. It's like "what do I look at first." In your slider, you could have one image at a time with a text description.

    Good luck with the site!

Not sure why everyone is saying great job, anyone who knows and runs ecommerce stores will tell you this id bad.

Ok good points; good effort for starters you did something

But you can do a lot of things to improve.

First of all you have too many products on the first page, too much too soon I feel overwhelmed, if it was me I'd put your best selling product quite large image and then the 3 categories below that maybe as a maximum but nothing else.

The visa and store info is good makes you look credible.

I would take 70% of items off your website and only sell the top sellers, then do product launches email your customers and tell them the new stuff, offers and bundle deals etc.

This is a good basic starting point, hope it helps good luck and all the best

Currently there are about 500 products, and I'm not sure I am *allowed* to cut the inventory. If it's better though, I'll try it.

Everyone seems overwhelmed when they see the products, so I'm going to assume they are too large/cumbersome. Maybe a better navigation/catalogue would do the trick?

I'm installing a site search, and since I'm taking Small Revolutions advice about the product descriptions, entering in keywords for each product shouldn't be much. And if there are fewer products, well, that's less work for me! haha

I have a few recommendations about the online store.

Simplicity is good but you need enough info to make the customer fee comfortable.

    1. Header and Background: The header needs some color and the background should be another color that is complementary. The current background wall paper is blurry and is hard to look at.

    2. Product Images - The product images are too big and need to be made smaller. Highlight a few of your popular products.

    3. Credit Card images - You don't need to display those images as we have found they do not create any additional sales.

    4. Header Info - I would move the store physical address and phone number into the right side of your header. The navigator bar on the right side is important real estate that you don't need that info there. The address and phone number will give your local buyers the info they need and let non-local internet customers know you have a phone number and location and are legit.

    5. Navigation - I would move the navigation from the right side to the left side. I would remove the address info and the list of graphic images showing you categories. You need to put the categories on the left side of the navigation. People going to your site will spend around 30 seconds deciding if they want to explore your site. Make it real simple for them to search and find the product categories.

    6. Search bar - Add a search bar above the category list on the left side navigation as detailed above. Get rid of the search bar from the header as it is redundant

    7. Product Descriptions and Images - The images for the products on the product detail are way to big. You need them to be smaller so you the customer can see more on the page and also see the related products.

    8. Home Page Top Slider - I would try the changes and get rid of the slider graphics you have right below the header. Try just putting products on the home page and see if this boost sales. You can always add a graphic slider image back giving a blurb about the store. The bottom line is that you want to generate sales, make money, and provide a good product.

    9. Home Page - Try adding a menu option with testimonials and any awards the store has been given and a BBB rating.

    Good luck.
