Hey Guys,

I recently went live with my new e-commrce ( hashtag-designs.com ).

Since going live I've relied on paid traffic for to drive traffic & sales. Unfortunately as of yet my ROI is practically $0 with very few people converting.

I fully get the value of investing in growing my fan base with organic methods like social media, reaching out to influences (bloggers, celebs, etc) and slower methods like SEO or content marketing. Unfortunately I have neither the time nor the budget to invest into these things.

My initial goal was get an immediate influx of sales through paid and then hire a VA or 2 to invest in organic methods - unfortunately I'm not seeing the sales.

WF can you look over the site and give some advice on product, UI/UX?

Thanks,
Josh

When I first landed on home page I wasn't sure what your site was about, and reading the welcome message didn't help

    Welcome to Hashtag-Designs!

Hashtag-Designs is a new website dedicated to the design & current affairs. What does this look like?

This sentence doesn't make any sense to me.

Don't you mean (dedicated to the design of T shirts & current affairs events) even with that change you really need to add a lot more to that welcome message as to what you are all about and the connection between the two.

I also did not know what you were selling, until I
realized that your "Display Photos" were probably
the items up for sale (but I had to wait until the
picture changed). You should at least have your
first photo displaying on of your shirt examples.

Personally, I would ditch the rotating banner
completely and put in several static examples
with the clear message "THESE ARE FOR SALE".
Of course, I would not say it like that.

So, it took me a few seconds to figure that out.
The problem is that you don't have a few seconds.
You have maybe only one (1) second.

You need to tell people EXACTLY what it is that
you are selling, doing, and wanting them to do.
You have probably heard that when you want
someone to leave their email to get something
for free that you actually need to ask and/or
tell them to do so - even if it is something
        that they really want.

Speaking of opt-ins, you are going to miss
a lot of monetary opportunities by not having
that opt-in box to collect emails.

        Good luck.

I see a bigger underlying problem as well.. your designs are, when all is said and done, not really about current affairs after all.. Churchill, Kennedy.. as much as I like what I see, I´d rather expect to see a take on current Internet memes, maybe some political slogans, something that really stands out. And its really difficult to stand out in this niche ..

Hey Rbates thanks for the advice. Some comments:

1 - I love building an email list for multiple reasons but I think that to just have an email opt-in is premature and should be collected after a sale OR perhaps I could create an email optin in return for a discount on sales?

    Hi,
Just make sure people know what actually you sell. Because the domain name doesn't convey that, as soon as someone looks at your site, they must know what you sell !
Rest is going to be good gradually...

I agree with pretty much everybody, you have to get what your selling out there, add more samples something to bring it to life. I found the layout boring spice it up you say your about design show your skills off.

    Hey,

Hmmm, i think the issue is that most of your visitors won't know what you are selling and would exit within just a few minutes. You'll need to have something to catch their attention at first glance. So that they know what you're selling is relevant to what they are looking for.

Another thing is, getting them to convert quick and just pumping in money is the wrong way to go. If you really want to get a good ROI, you've gotta capture the leads, do some content marketing. A better brand converts more customers and gets a regular stream compared to one just relying on quick traffic and quick money. Invest into your ecommerce site, it will pay back in the long run...

    That's just my two cents

It's a nice looking site but I also did not know what you were selling and I had to wait for the banner to run through to understand that it was shirts.

I think you should focus on single line or product because it is easier for customer's recognition and conversion rate when they found your website.

    Hey Josh,

I've been running eCommerce stores for the last 15 years. I've put together some thoughts in this screencast for you.

    http://youtu.be/G6tt9MoxODk

The main point I'm making is that your PPC strategy could change to create partnerships with high volume YOLO-themed Facebook Fan pages.

The screencast will show you a basic product research method that I use.

Let me know what you think,

I'm confused with current affairs aspect? At first glance, I see nothing current I relate to. The slideshow also is too fast for me to digest what is happening on this site.
Design and Current I get. It's hip. But show me CURRENT.
