So I Can Make 10x More Income Overnight - Should I Do It?

So one of my sites I made a while ago was made for the sole purpose to sell a specific product. The product is on amazon at the 4% commission and also on other e-commerce sites offering 8% commission. I have been using the latter.

Anyway I just checked my sales this month and I have sold about $850 worth of their product (roughly 30 products, Item is roughly $20-30 each). And have earned about 75$ in commissions from that.

I have found a distributor for said product where I can buy the same amount I have sold for roughly $100 total.

Basically, if I sell the product through my site rather than affiliate for someone else I could be making $750 profit rather than $75 dollars profit per month.

Basially Wondering:

A: Is running your own physical store annoying/hard/nightmare?

B: Is postage for a fist sized box from Canada to USA expensive? Label, bubble wrap, tiny box, stamps, etc.

C: Would be shipping 20-40 products per month, would going to the post office 1x per week suffice? I am selling about 1 product per day on avg.

D Would you do it?

Thanks

Do it on eBay. Selling stuff from your own site is tough. People don't know you and like the idea of having a big company like Amazon or eBay behind their purchase. Mailing your products once a week isn't enough for eBay's liking. Don't they have carrier pick up in Canada?

    "Fixed that for you".

I don't know what it is, but it sounds like something people swallow? In which case your assumption that you can sell the same quantity from your own site as from an established e-commerce site may turn out to be a big overestimate? Just sayin' ....

I can't answer your other questions, but this probably isn't something I'd want to get involved with, myself. It's "delicate" enough being an affiliate for things people swallow. The litigation potential of being the vendor scares me.

All that said, though, Travlinguy's Ebay suggestion above sounds a perhaps much better shot, to me?

You may be right about ebay, I was either planning that or linking to a seperate site with an ecommerce like them Id make. Although ebay would probably be a lot less hassle. I wasnt aware there was a shipping frequency rule on ebay.

If it were me I'd try selling on ebay while also keeping my site going with the affiliate links. Then you can decide which you prefer.

Shipping once per week will not work. People pay when they order and expect items to be shipped quickly (24-48 hrs is probably the norm).

As for how much postage is - that's research you need to do.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

Best advice. Do both. If your really frugal (not a bad thing) you could just use your commission money to pay for the ebay business. Risk free and motivtes you to increase the affiliate websites earnings.

If it were me, I would have switched over immediately. But I should note, affiliate marketing isn't for me. 30 sales for a grand total of $75? WHAT? Realistically, you would only need to make 4-5 sales, if that, to make the around the same amount. As for your questions:

    A. No. Not for me anyways. It really boils down to what YOU want though. Especially if you're talking one sale, on average, per day. It may take you 5 minutes max, to put it in a box, label it, and stick it in the mailbox for the carrier (or drop off). Also, I'm not positive by fulfillment by amazon (or some other company) may be available for you.

    B. Not sure. This would require a little research. USPS.com could tell you exactly what'd would cost. Your profit margins seem high enough to account for the minimal supplies cost.

    C. People buy online for convenience. But nobody wants to wait potentially up to 6 days for you to get around to mailing their order to them. I would recommend getting the orders out ASAP when they come in.

    D. Yes.

A: Is running your own physical store annoying/hard/nightmare?

It can be but it all depends on how organized you are and whether you have the right systems and tools in place.

B: Is postage for a fist sized box from Canada to USA expensive? Label, bubble wrap, tiny box, stamps, etc.

It's usually based on weight. How much is the package weight?

C: Would be shipping 20-40 products per month, would going to the post office 1x per week suffice? I am selling about 1 product per day on avg.

1X per week might not be enough unless you CLEARLY indicate that shipping can take up to 2 weeks.

    D Would you do it?

It depends. Are you committed to dealing with the shipping and customer service hassles. Are they worth the extra effort and time? Are there opportunities to expand from this into other related products? Will these customers become repeat buyers?

If the answer to these questions is "no" then I would think twice about it.

The big concern is getting traffic to a site. Don't assume that free traffic will magically come to your site. It won't. How will you get traffic and how much will that cost?

    Thanks[/QUOTE]

Others have given you good advice and I can't top it, so I won't try.

I did have one thought though. If you have an independent "Pak Mail" or similar shipping store in your area, walk in (when it is not busy) and strike up a conversation with the owners.

Ask them if they would be interested in fulfilling these orders for you. Buy your supply, leave it with them, set up a system (preferably email) where when you get an order, they would get the info from you and ship it out, then supply you with a tracking number or receipt, depending on how you do it.

Then, if it works, you have a scalable system in place from which you can continue to grow this.

    Good luck!

Selling physical products does take more time as you have to store the inventory, package, and ship the product.

Some suggestions based on our own experience of selling physical products:

    1. See if your supplier will drop ship the orders for you? If so, you can still make a nice profit and avoid the shipping and inventory headache. Here all you do is get the order info, send it to supplier with payment, and they ship it out.

    2. Keep Amazon Store, Open Ebay Store, and Your Own Online Store
Since you have the Amazon store and it is making money, then keep it set up making you money. Use that money and get an Ebay Store setup which costs not much money and get some auctions setup to test the market.

I would also setup your own online store loaded on your own web hosting account. You can buy a Wordpress store theme like WP Store or similar and configure the store site and load your product descriptions in etc.

Using Amazon, Ebay, and your own online store will give you the ability to reach more customers for not much more money. This way you can test to see which market makes you the most money and then focus more in that area. You really have to figure out the best way to reach the customers that want to buy that particular product.
