Hi All,

I am researching a possible niche for a new site. Does anyone have a rough benchmark for the # of typical monthly searches threshold that your primary keywords should surpass in order to consider it a viable niche?

Thanks!

Hey there. My typical low end is 3000 unique monthly searches.

Not to self-promote, but I wrote an exhaustive post on choosing a niche, specifically for ecommerce sites. I cover the viability of the niche among many other things you should consider...along with a step by step action plan.

Thanks SS. I checked out your article which is very good. Quick question though, my idea is in a niche o the kitchen space and when you do a search for the primary keywords, primarily recipe sites pop up versus products. Does that create a challenge in terms of competing with the recipe sites?

Hi mw13. Glad you liked the article. Yes, from the sound of it you may have a challenge competing with recipe sites. First determine if there is demand for your product. If there is, find a keyword variant that doesn't have to do with recipes.
