I want to start a eCommerce site though I am not too sure what "Dropshipping" is.

How would I go about creating an eCommerce site, aside from finding a niche, hosting and domain? Also, is anyone selling some pre-made websites that a beginner could purchase to get started?

Thanks you in advance

Drop shipping is basically where the inventory doesn't touch your premises and the manufacture or supplier ships the order directly to the buyer. It's a bit trickier to make a profit with it, but will lower your overhead considerably.

Regarding "pre-made" websites. Look at services like Shopify, Bigcommerce, and Squarespace. They provide fully functional hosted ecommerce sites. Sign up, pick a theme, add your products, set up your merchant account and you're on your way.

  • Hey There,

Dropshipping is when a seller doesn’t own the inventory- they source it from a wholesaler or supplier, who then ships it directly to the customer (you never touch the product). Otherwise, you own and stock your own inventory, and ship it yourself.

Dropshipping has its benefits (no need for storage, mitigated risk of investing in inventory that doesn’t sell - great for a beginner or part-timer), but it comes with negatives as well. You run the risk of the dropshipper running out of inventory, and possibly alerting you after you’ve already processed an order for an out-of-stock item, or not telling you at all. There’s also the possibility of more market competition, since it’s likely that other sellers are also sourcing their products from the same dropshipper. Decide if the risks outweigh the benefits to your business model, or vice versa.

For ecommerce website platforms, our inventory management tool (ecomdash) integrates with Shopify, 3dcart, ZenCart, and Magento. They’re all great choices, though some are more robust than others. Check Shopify’s forums for ecommerce sites for sale- I’ve seen posts advertising that frequently. Good luck!

Yes, as others have indicated, dropshipping simply means the wholesaler (manufacturer or distributor) is willing to sell to the retailer (YOU) and then ship direct to the customer.

The wholesaler (preferably the manufacturer of the products) gives you permission to list their products on your website (online store) and you sell them at retail (i.e. $100 for an item). When the product sells, you collect the cash from the customer and send the dropshipper (wholesaler) the customer's shipping info. The "dropshipper" then charges you the "wholesale price" (i.e. $70 for the item) and sends the item direct to YOUR customer. You keep the difference between what you collected and what they charged you (i.e. $30 in this example).

This tutorial explains the concept in more detail and actually has a graphic that shows you how it works visually.

FYI, do NOT let anyone convince you that dropshipping doesn't work or is a scam. The only people that think that are folks that have been conned by retailers posing as dropshippers (you will find THOUSANDS of them by doing Google searches). I assure you dropshipping is legit and works because I've made hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past ~10 years using it. You just have to know how to find a legit wholesaler that will dropship for you in order to make it work!

I agree with Dave. I am new to this whole internet business world, but I have worked at a high level in the "normal" business world for a long time. Most recently I worked with a manufacturing company who offers great margins on high ticket items with a minimal dropshipping fee. The dropshippers that work with this company do very well.

Like anything else in life worth doing, it is all about doing the work! Good luck and keep us posted on how it is going!

It’s better to check with some web development companies who offer ready-made software, which can also be modified as per your requirement.

    Hi xkakashi,

It's good idea to start an ecommerce business and to earn online. For a startup you can look for Prestashop (an easier and full-featured, cross-platform eCommerce shopping cart application). It is a free and open source solution. PrestaShop is the best choice as you are starting with small shop.

And for pre made themes and hosting go through the signature link where you can find free and pro themes according to your requirement and also get the support for hosting plans too!

    Good Luck

It really depends on what your looking to achieve with your website. I think you should try planning out how many products you will be selling and finding out what types of shopping cart features you will need. If your looking to do stuff yourself and want something easy, try WordPress with a shopping cart plugin called Woocommerce. For something a bit more advance and has more features, go with Magento. If your looking for something secure, try Cart66. If not you can always go to Squareup.com and open a online store for FREE or you can pay a monthly subscription to other websites such as shoppify or some others. I forgot. Just do a search on google for shopping cart softwares or e-commerce sites. Good luck.

    xkakashi,

Andrew Youderian over at eCommerce Fuel has just co-written a book on Dropshipping. You can get it from here https://ecommerce.shopify.com/guides/dropshipping

And to buy a ready-made website why don't you check out Flippa.com. They often have eCommerce sites that are ready to go, and include dropshipping suppliers.

Dropship, you are the middleman/connector. for example: you can post a for sale on auction site for 1 new phone cover. It got sold, then you contact a supplier to ship it to your customer. You pocket the money, no inventory, no packing or shipping on your part

I had a membership at WorldWide Brands, they are a network offer such a list of dropshippers. Although I am not endorsing anyone, just that is 1 I am aware of.

      Pros:
-Reduce upfront costs and commitments (no inventory-carrying cost)
-Reduction in cost of receiving, storing and shipping
      -Possible location shipping advantages

      Cons:
-Usually stocking retailer pays less (can increase your COGS)
-Problems with orders are more difficult to sort out
-Higher costs over having the inventory yourself
      -Can limit product selection

It truly relies on upon what your looking to attain with your site. I think you ought to have a go at arranging out what number of items you will be offering and discovering what sorts of shopping truck characteristics you will require. For something some more development and has more peculiarities, run with Magento. In the event that your searching for something secure, attempt Cart66. If not you can just go to Squareup.com and open an online store for FREE or you can pay a month to month membership to different sites, for example, shoppify or a few others. I overlooked. Simply do a quest on google for shopping truck virtual products or e-business locales. Good fortunes.
