Getting Started on Amazon With Own Products?

Hey all, new member here who is just about to start selling physical products on Amazon. These are actually my own products I manufacture in-house so they will be completely unique to the marketplace.

My main concern with starting on Amazon is getting those initial reviews. I realize how important they are in getting sales traction on the website. I have no problem giving away my product for free for an honest review, my main concern though is that Amazon will start thinking all these reviews are fake and take them down...or even worse remove me as a seller.

Does anyone else have any experience with selling physical products on Amazon and getting reviews? I have watched other companies in the segment I am targeting launch products and get 1 - 5 verified reviews per week with limited sales volume. The only way I am thinking they are doing this is via pay-per-review.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Amazon does an excellent job of encouraging buyers to write reviews. They are masters of this. Unless your sales volume is very low you probably don't need to worry too much about this.

    • Believe me or not but roughly only 1 buyer out of 8 leaves a review. Most of the time it is a negative one.

  • When you think about mass marketing e.g TV, Radio etc, they were (and are) very much one way mediums. Marketplaces like Amazon and their reviews benefits great products as it's far less opaque than traditional channels.
