hi, how about sending out a weekly or monthly newsletter and offering them a discount code with an expiry date for say 48 hours or incentive to buy from you such as a promotional item or a free gift. That usually gets my attention and gets me buying so your customers will probably be the same.
I'd recommend testing is out small scale first though and then if it you see good results then you can roll it out.

Loyalty programs are a great idea. Your friends are right.

But it sounds like you need help with actually attracting traffic in the first place. Here is what I recommend.

Join one or more online marketplaces. They already have traffic and folks who buy everyday. They handle payments and just let you know where to ship the products you're selling. Several e-commerce entrepreneurs I have known have included cards or flyers in each product they ship that refer buyers to their own Websites for future orders. Over time, this will build traffic going directly to your Website and sustain a high level of sales there. Something to think about.

A mobile app for loyalty is great, but should only be implemented if your site works REALLY, really well on mobile first.

Creating an app without having a website that's easily accessed via a mobile device might frustrate shoppers and make them feel like a lot of effort is required on their part to shop from your store with their mobile device (a trend that's growing like crazy in eCommerce right now).

Having a well-executed and mobile-responsive website enables ANYone to take a look at your store from a mobile device, and have a great experience doing so.

This makes it easy for new customers to see what you're all about, while your loyalty rewards app is doing all the heavy lifting retaining your customers and making sure to get the most out of your most loyal shoppers.
