Struggling with Promoting on Free Stuff Sites

I was wondering if any ecommerce owners have ever offered discounts or coupons at Free Stuff websites? Was looking for some advice about doing this as my early attempts have got me in hot water with the mods. Meaning I was trying not to come across as spam or self referral but it appears I was. Thanks!

Can you post some examples of what your offers looked like?

I think we might need a bit more information about your question.

Would you mind elaborating on your situation? Tell us a bit more about your store, what you sell, what these "free stuff sites" are, exactly how they work, and why you found yourself in hot water with the mods.

I was offering $10.00 of total purchase for digital books and the $10.00 is good for repeat purchases for time span of 4 weeks. Books are not geared towards IM crowd but for everyday people. Topics include herbalism, paleo & vegetarianism recipe books, Weight loss, conditioning/toning, gardening, hydoponics/aquaponics, self-help/hypnosis, etc.

To me FREE means FREE if you have to buy something at any point then that isn't free. Perhaps you could give away a small item as a way to build an email list for your store? That may be allowed by these sites.
Yes I 100% agree with you. Free is Free and the $10.00 discount is the Free giveaway.

So yes the site is all digital books catering towards the non IM traffic. The 'Free Stuff Sites' were recommended in the WSO I bought from 'Ron Rule' over a year ago. I have other ecommerce stores that are doing fine and are all physical based products. Honestly I wanted to put into play the actionable steps in the WSO I purchased with a digital based store for explorative purposes. http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...ng-budget.html

I respect Ron's work and advice and have sent him a message regarding this also. Expect to hear from him soon. Below is the last email I received:

I fully understand that there is paid advertisement but,
I see thousands of promotional offers with direct links and I
followed the exact format. Even spent time reading all the TOS/
FAQ/Forum Rules and sent questions to the mods online explaining
them what I had to offer. Now I am not a 'Big Box' retail giant.
However I carefully looked at other posts from new members with
fewer than 10 posts that had direct links and such.

I am now a bit obsessed with cracking this nut and learning about
this process. Feel that there is real merit in it for traffic.
I know the WSO is old but I respect Ron Rule's work and am hesitant
to go into greater detail in his WSO.

Thanks to all for replying to my OP!
