I am not sure if you are using WordPress to build your website, however, I am assuming that only and here are a few suggestions:

    Paid ones (no affiliate link)

    Wildcat
    Tour Package
    Book Your Travel
    Love Travel
    Travel Island
    Midway
    The Vacation Rental
    Lamoon
    Bed & Breakfast

    Hope this helps!

    Good luck.

P.S. I could not find great looking free travel themes (but there was at least one I saw long time back, can't recall right away).

This would depend on the functionality of the site. Do they want a basic web presence or do they want a full blown website where customers can book vacations, etc.?

Once you determine the site's functionality requirements you can then choose a CMS or other type of platform and THEN look for a theme. I'm sure there are tons of themes you can find from a quick Google search once you select which platform you'll need.

    This is what I do.

    1. Have the client provide you with a list of sites (competitors or others) that they like...that look they way they'd like their site to eventually look. Help them narrow down this list.

    2. Then, Google the latest themes for your platform. So if you're using WordPress, you could search for (2014 WordPress Responsive Themes). You'll be flooded with options.

    3. Pour through them until you find a few that look great and are similar to what you and your client have targeted.

    4. Provide your client with 3 options, and let them choose. Typically, they'll want some hybrid of two or three of them, but you can pick the closest match, then modify it to bring in the features they liked from the other(s).

I don't know how you could effectively provide them with a design they will like, unless they are part of the process.

    Hope that helps.

That really depends on what the client wants the website to do. They're travel agents ... do they want booking capabilities and searching for travel deals capabilities, etc.? Some of what they want may need to be custom programmed.

This is absolutely right. You're going to maybe have to hold some meetings with your client to get a really solid understanding of their requests, requirements, and expectations.

If they just want a simple, relatively static, information-based site, then you'll want to simply enough follow modern web design guidelines: clean, simple designs with engaging colors, fetching images, and cool-looking icons.

If you want to even take things a step further, you can take a look at Google's Material Design guidelines.

It's all here, if you want a leg up: https://www.google.com/design/

In my opinion, as Google goes, so does the rest of the Internet.

(That whole slick-looking, downward-scrolling trend that's so popular? Totally started by Google.)

      Good luck!!

You can go for Magneto or Customized ecommerce platform that will provide you a number of themes to choose from.
