Pros & Cons of Amazon vs. Paypal Payment Platform

What are the pros and cons of Paypal and Amazon payment systems.

I have paypal, but I am considering using Amazon's payment platform because of the reputation that Amazon has with its customers for my new E-commerce store.

Amazon has a lot more bells and whistle, too. I want to get feedback from online store owners that are using either one of them.

But, I am more interested in the e-commerce store owners who are using Amazon's payment system.

Amazon system seems so much more sexier and organized. I really want to click their button because I am already accustom to shopping on Amazon. Moreover, I think that is the mindset of most online shoppers.

Many have stated that when they switch to Amazon their sales ratio increased dramatically.

What say you?

Personally I would NEVER use Amazon Payment for an eCommerce business.

Ron Rule recently wrote an article explaining why it should be avoided.

Are you planning on using both or just replacing Paypal with Amazon Payments?

Do you have your own merchant account as well or just using one payment platform?

Wow, I did read the article and I really want to thank you. Listen, I love Amazon because they helped me make a lot of money, but I know they only made a lot more than I based on some sneaky tricks....

I have had first had experience where they tried to knock out the little guy get all inventory on products to sell. That is their job and that is why they are the best.

So, you gotta be very careful. I am trying to develop some independence from Amazon and I see that would defeat the purpose. Enough said, I know what I am going to do now...

      Thanks,

      Elon

ok, I did some more research and realized that in my case Amazon already knows my products because I am selling them on their platform anyway...so I am still looking at Amazon. I just want to establish my own brand.

If you are using shopify I am assuming you are using Shopify Payments so you are just looking to add on an additional payment option. I would still steer clear from Amazon. Even though they know what you are selling through them (seller central I am assuming) there is no need to give them even more information to use against you. At the moment, you are trying to to establish a separate brand and identity.

This is just a conjecture, I am curious if people see the Amazon payment option and go to the amazon.com site to see if they can buy there instead. Besides all the data I am concerned that you could get a lot of leak from your own channel to Amazon which is a huge margin hit...

To me this isn't even a close call. Amazon may know what you sell on Amazon but why give them the rest of the picture?

Is the reward (a tiny increase in conversions) worth the risk (having amazon steal your idea and go direct to your supplier)? Amazon has a BAD track record for doing this sort of thing.
