Hi there
I don't know that is it the correct board or not but I think it could be!
anyway, it's a long time that I'm researching on starting a new online store for just selling downloadable products like ebooks, musics, videos, applications, softwares and so on.
For starting an online store to sell physical products it is completely clear that where do we have to go and buy what we want to sell or we can use drop shippers services but for digital products what do we have to do?

Hey guys, thanks a lot for your time at the very first point!

Been looking at that ourselves, just found out that the labels make Amazon & iTunes put customer information in each download. Go to the record labels and they will say they're not interested (too small) - go to the artists they usually have tight contracts - so at this point - absolutely no idea like yourself!

      !
So your final point is that we cannot start a proper store for this kind of products, is it correct?

So far it looks that way - obviously there is a way but we don't want to spend 3-5yrs slowing building it up - just have not yet found the fast track method. Part of the problem is that there was court case where it is not legal to resell digital music so you can't buy secondary market like for physical products. For the books that is locked tight to the platform - just read that Amazon may have the ability to delete books on Kindles directly.

So, we are also open to suggestions - yours is the first post we have come across in some time asking this question. We're still none the wiser!

It seems to be impossible to do that, I mean we cannot sell ebooks, musics and such stuffs but what about for example softwares? there are various type of softwares that we can sell for example antivirus softwares as one of the most important one, what can we do in this case?
Also for ebook and musics, is it possible to sell them az affiliates of for example amazon or clickbank in the same store which we sell for example antivirus licenses? As you see, we are going to sell affiliate products beside our own products and I think handling this store in one place could be the big problem! let's imagine that we are going to use presta shop or Magento or Shopify.

you are the only one who helps me! thanls a lot man

It's a bit weird to mix them as customers would be confused where they are buying from, yes we have access to some special technology and helped build a ShopStyle affiliate site based on Magento - but for music most go directly to Amazon or iTunes. Might be better to have two sites, one affiliate and one cross-linked as an eCommerce store.

It's going to be pretty much the same thing for any digital product, software would be easier but still a pain - you have to get them to agree to you holding the digital copies. That's the main problem - they want to trust they get the royalties - which benefits the big companies but not the small ones who have no buying power.

For us software is too 'one-off' - it's fine as part of a complete technology store but the sales would be too small as standalone. After months researching we still haven't found a way start a digital only store - lots of talk by everyone but absolutely nothing concrete. As baffled as you are!

As I understood, the best thing is to forget about starting an onilne store to sell downloadable products! The only option in this case is to be an affiliate marketer and maybe we can run a shop style site with magento, presta shop or even wordpress!
But I'm sure that I've seen some online stores which sales ebooks from various authors, they are not a marketplace, they are only normal online stores!
unfortunately I can't find them now but I'm sure about that! and this is the weird facet for me

We're also interested in downloadble books, will need to do some more research in to that one, we know the music is not pleasant. Our main problem is the content, we have access to this http://www.warriorforum.com/ecommerce-sites-wholesaling-drop-shipping/994793-management-business-technology.html - but without products it goes nowhere.

Sure we can go the physical route but they are mid or low volume and mid or high margins - we're looking at low margin and high volume setups. The technology can handle it - scalable up to millions of products - we were hovering between books and music so will skip the music for the moment and look at your suggestion.

Affiliate is a whole other ballgame, you can run hacky WP sites but whats the value of that, we see industry specific sites like ShopStyle or something like you suggest as an affiliate digital music site are the way to go.
