Completely agree with Lipi Paliwal. First, you need to think about the targeted location as well as audience. Because, it is a very important point that first you have to decide where you can do the better business.

I'm very interested in this sector and planning to try it in the UK. Would you be able to let me know a few pointers, when you say you have to think about the market and customer you are aiming at please now that i have said the UK is the market I'm aiming at?

Would be great to know the pitfalls please?

and is this market totally saturated? i plan to try White label, on Amazon (and maybe my own site pointing to Amazon)

Hi,

The health supplements market is very crowded and competitive, so you are always best targeting a market segment that you understand ...

So for example, if you are in to bodybuilding, stick with those ...
If you have an interest in developing the mind, look at supplements that are supposed to help in that area ...
If you can use your interests to understand and get in to a market, it will help.

Another thing to consider is that the UK/EU has very different legal requirements than the US.

For example, you cannot make health claims unless they have been authorised - and only a very very few have been, mostly vitamins.
European Commission - Health and Consumers

Saying that - there is money to be made ...

Decide on your market segment
Understand their needs
Choose your USP to meet a specific set of needs.
Start off with a few products, 3 or 4.
After a few months, introduce another one and keep an eye on sales - then drop which ever has the lowest sales ... repeat this process every few months so you are always selling the best sellers.

White Label - So you plan to buy unlabelled bottles and stick your own label. That is a good way to start as the MOQs are lower.
Important - There were new label requirements introduced in December 2014 ... You need to check these and make sure that your labels comply.

Fantastic Vic thank you! that all makes a lot of sense.

Does Amazon require in the UK that you have liability insurance to sell supplements incase someone has a reaction or becomes ill? Or is that normally covered by the while label manufacturer please?

Any other pointers from other people please? would be great to get as much advise as possible before taking the leap!

Hi,

Amazon - Not that I am aware.
Also, the manufacturer should have full public liability insurance, so you are covered by theirs as they are the manufacturer.
