The Art of Successful Inboxing

Everyone develops their own method/strategy to ensure maximum inboxing. After all, not many people check their Spamfolder - let alone opening the emails that end-up there.

Although inboxing is something to be tested and improved consistently, the following are just some of the tips that have worked well for me in the past.(Specific to the Mailer Body)

Message Content:
  • Don't use "spammy" words and phrases in your content. (FREE, Morgtage, Insurance, CLICK NOW types).
  • Don't just send a giant graphic.
  • Always include a plain-text alternative with your HTML email.
  • Code your HTML email properly. (test the codes for errors and get rid of them)
  • Sender's Email Address: Do not use free emails
  • Don't write on the concept of "Copy That Sells" for an email (This would be especially hard in MMO/IM products niche)
  • Text to Image ratio should be at-least 60-40%
  • Reduce use of exclamation mark in body
  • Avoid ALL CAPS in Content
  • Avoid superlative words & phrases, or words indicating urgency
  • Avoid fancy fonts or large bolded text
  • Talk about Finance related words carefully
  • Images must be references "Absolutely" and not relatively as some ISP changes them to Absolute which may not render properly
  • The image should be less than 600 Pixels
Again, these are not hard-and-fast rules, but based on what I have researched, implemented and tested with good results over the years.

What works for your in improving your Open rate? Have you found a cost-effective way to measure your inboxing rate? (Not to be confused with delivery rate).

Do share what works for you as well.

These are some great points ppcmanager. Further to your comments, I feel it's so important to be yourself in your emails to subscribers. Everybody has their own style. You will find what works for you and what doesn't within your own natural flow. You don't need to be exactly like someone else just because they are having success. It's smart to choose certain techniques that they use and "model" yourself after them, but again make it your own. In order to have excellent results as email in-boxer you will constantly need to test and find what works and what doesn't. When you find things that do work then keep doing those things. It seems obvious however many email marketers continue without adapting and modifying in order to maximize results. Thanks again for bringing up these ideas. I look forward to conversing further.

This might be counter intuitive but not selling anything in the first couple of emails I send to my list helps increase the open rate further down the line.

There are many variables why emails go to spam.
      -No spf/dkim/rdns
-Too many messages from 1 IP
      -Repeated messages
      -Too many bounce email
-Your links are flagged as spam
-Many people mark your messages as spam
-Your server or ISP ip address are flagged as spam.
-Your email server is new (reputation)
      -Html on body of messages
-Bad keywords on body of messages
