Question about list building !

Hi Guys,

I'm setting up a sales funnel to build my list on weight loss niche.

I've read that redirecting subscribers to an OTO is a good thing.

What can you advice to help me choose an OTO that converts?

Thanks.

    This is a big question.

I'd look around WF for threads on the subject. The trick, of course, is matching. What is the one OTO that can enhance best your signup offer?

I've read the opposite. And much more importantly I've found the opposite, too, whenever I've tested it for myself.

There's a lot of mistaken thinking around, about this subject.

Here's the thing: yes, you can make a fast sale or two by doing that, but it doesn't really gain anything, because that fast sale or two are to people who would have a bought a week later, anyway, after receiving two or three emails from you and reading whatever you send them in exchange for their email address. The downside - and it can be a really big downside! - is that a significant proportion of the ones who don't buy immediately are going to be alienated as a result, because they think "Oops, just another marketer chasing fast sales: shouldn't have opted in, here" and your open-rate can decline dramatically as a result of that, which can cost you a lot of future sales.

But if you don't split-test it for yourself, by building two different lists and monitoring their respective open-rates, you'll never know that. And most of the people "advising" marketers to do this haven't done that, in my opinion. (If they had, they wouldn't still be recommending it!).

So you have very, very little (if anything) to gain by doing this ...

... but potentially an enormous amount to lose.

    Yep.

This is what I mean about a big subject. Is OTO good marketing? Sure it is - but only if you do it right. As anyone will know who's on my own list, I'm not a fan of the big sell - in fact, in the MMO niche, I'm not a fan of the sell at all in a newsletter. (Subscribers will buy what they know they need.) As far as using the OTO model: the wrong way is to surprise someone with something they now NEED to benefit from your free information. The right way is to mention something that can ENHANCE what they get for free. It's not rocket science, but there is a lot of information to cover, so I suggest reading around on the subject.

in life and in business there is always harmony. There are a lot of schools of thought on this however no one actually brings out data...

when someone subscribes on my list in that space what makes me up to 3 times more revenue is immediately after they optin send them to a presell video that first and foremost reinforces their reason for joining your list...it educates them on how to make sure they are getting your emails and why its absolutely beneficial for them to stay engaged everyday...it then segways into if they are looking to get the best result with their problem, in the shortest time possible is the solution you're going to present them with on the next page. And you presell them on the product that you were going to use as your oto anyway.

this way you get the best of both worlds. Where you still make immediate income for the traffic, but also increase the consumption of your emails at the same time.

and in my testing this has doubled the value at minimum of what a subscriber is worth to us from day 1.

my best day in health space was $2100 in commissions using this preselling and preframing technique.

once you get a winning script that converts you can even go to fiverr and get a professional voiceover and split test it against your own video. In one of mu niches this gave me an additional bump in epc. Hope that helps.

I personally go with the long term approach of not doing a OTO, building a relationship with great value & content then selling once I have achieved that. This works well for me.

I used to be a high street top retail salesman & this approach worked best for me then too. My colleague however was much more aggressive yet achieved great results as well.

All depends on how you want to build your business & what you are comfortable with personally as both no OTO and having a OTO both work.

      Cheers

        Hey smartcoach,

I think in most markets having an OTO could be a turn off.

I have found though, in the MMO niche an OTO is not only well received by many recent subs it is actually expected and embraced.

Some might argue this, but this is just from my own experience. Test and see

  • I believe in the 80/20 rule. 80% give and 20% receive.

My list knows that they are getting tremendous free value and my OTO after opting in works well.

You must know how to introduce the OTOs though and have is custom made as a free bonus gift in which it is. No second optin required but another great value OTO that complements my lead magnet in the first place.

My rule of thumb is that the best time to make some sales from a lead is after opting in.

You must look at it like a 10 min commercial from a 30 minutes show on TV.

      Try this . . .

Offer an OTO that is extremely high quality in the niche but give it away. Keep it short and sweet as in the 1st Chapter of an ebook or a report that gives some great tips ... but don't give away the farm. In the OTO, without hardselling, make an offer for the rest of the ebook or further details in the full report.

You will be giving something away that is very valuable . . . but just giving a taste so the subscriber gets to know you and your quality/expertise. Once they have tasted what you're offering, then offer the full meal at a great price if they order now.

You've been to Costco or the supermarket where they offer samples of new food products. Of course the idea is to let you taste the product, not just look at the package. They're hoping once you see how it tastes you'll buy the full product which just happens to be on sale right now.

My tip : When choosing an OTO (immediate monetizer) it can be an affiliate offer, or it can be an offer of your own product. Try and make a sale immediately , most won't buy on the first time around however, that is ok because now you can develop a relationship with them and send them to that same offer over and over, it really depends. The #1 thing you should be doing is building that list up, and provided relevant content that they signed up for.

I think it is a good thing redirecting to an OTO and I have used it but I only go one deep and have no stats for going any further.

Why not go to CB and see what are the top 2 converting products there and test them?

    Cheerio
