Buying List From Exact Data

Hey Warriors,
I am still struggling to get traffic to my CPA offers. For the last 6 months I havent earned even $50 online from the campaigns am running across the internet.
Marketing is still my major problem up to now.

I recently came across a website Mailing Lists and Leads | Email Marketing | Exact Data and got excited because they were selling email contacts from the US. They sell you 5000 conatcts/records for $400.
Here is their service description:

Here's a general price breakdown of our consumer email campaigns.

Consumer Email Campaign - Tiered Pricing
5,000 records = $100 per thousand records
10,000 records = $90 per thousand records
15k records = $85 per thousand records
25k records = $70 per thousand records
50k records = $55 per thousand records
100k records= $40 per thousand records

Our business email campaigns are a little bit more expensive. Vertical prices are pretty variant. If you can share the details of your campaign, I would be able to give you a more accurate quote.

Target: Who is the intended audience of this campaign? (ex: business, consumer, etc.)
Geography: (nationwide or a specific region/ zip code/ city/ county/ etc.)
Channel: (direct mail, email, and/ or telephone)
Selects: (demographic, income/ revenue, employee size, job title, etc.)
Count: (number of records requested, ex: 5,000 contacts

However, before purchasing, I ran through all the reviews related to this website and their services. I spent 5 good hours searching for any compliments or testimonials but all I saw was complaints after complaints.
Can anyone there please comment on this if at all there is some who has ever used it?

    They sell you 5000 conatcts/records for $400.
They sell it to every customer

What's the point in buying an email list. It is not legal. Importantly, if a person is receiving 1000 mails every day, what make you think that your email will be opened or even seen?

I spent 5 good hours searching for any compliments or testimonials but all I saw was complaints after complaints.
    You still need proofs?

Here is my honest suggestion, do not buy a list ever.

Marketing is still my major problem up to now.
There are millions of people in this world who actually do not know their problem - consider yourself lucky if you know your major problem.

If marketing is your problem, there are two things that you should do:

    1. Learn it. Get training. Reach out an IM expert for mentoring.
    2. Get out of it.

If I tell you that I make $XXX per day online, it DOES NOT mean that you should work online too. The reason I make money online is that I love doing this, it is my passion. If IM is not your passion, it is not something that interests you rather it is your problem, then what's the point in wasting your time and money on it?

Not everyone can be a doctor.
Not everyone can become an engineer.
Not everyone can become a plumber.
    Not everyone can do marketing.

I am not discouraging you. I am just trying to tell you that if it is not working for you, it just mean that there is a complete misfit.

Thank you Goodfuture for reading my thread and for your advice.

For your first advice, I am looking for a mentor and how I wish yu could be one!
It has been my greatest desire to have someone whom I can ask and answer back.

The reason why I posted a thread is not because I was not making enough like Goodfuture.
I posted it for advice because each one here has a reason why he/she joined WF. And of course this forum is not for people who should make money instantly but to even sharpen those who have time and time again failed but need some encouragement and mentorship. from seasoned marketers like you.
I would have quitted IM long time ago if I had no passion in this. And of course if you're are always hungry for something means you have to reach out to people who can help you out to satisfy your hunger..

Even Doctors do fail in their endeavors for becoming super doctors. But what keeps them to get success is their passion. They close eyes to failures and keep going.

I dont think quitting can be an alternative but always looking forward to what I want and learning from failures and mistakes can keep me going.

        Spirit.

        I wish you success.

We all start slow and steady, and then we move up the ladder. You will be there too, don't worry.

For now, do not buy any list. Yes, building a list of yours is a much suggested option.

You clearly have no experience buying or renting data, which by the way is a legitimate practice used by many marketers and fortune 500 companies daily.

      It is NOT illegal.
It can be and IS profitable if done correctly.
The people being contacted will want to be on your mailing list if you do it correctly.

This goes for email campaigns and physical direct mail campaigns.

If this is the only offer you are promoting then this could be bad for your future success online. You also want to have some programs that can earn you some residual income. It is OK to promote CPA offers on your site but once you stop promoting, your income will stop too.

    Think long term.

Do not even consider on buying any such list as most of these lists are fake and buying email list is not not legal. they may provide you email list but it won't help you in any way as the users will unsubscribe you and many email in it would not be genuine, they may be dead emaillist.

I would not buy a list. I have no idea if it's legal or not (as debated above) but I DO know that I tried this a few years ago when I was attempting (and failing miserably) at MLM marketing. At that point, I didn't even know what the hell an email list was... but I got sucked in. Took my money. Didn't get a single sale. Look, there might be legit ones out there, but it's risky. Work on building a SOLID list that is hyper-targeted and full of people that are devoted to you as a person. You have to build up a persona, a leader to this tribe of people you are emailing. Then, it's pretty easy to get them to drink the kool-aid (aka, make money).

Buying an "email list" is probably one of the WORST mistakes a marketer can make.

You will have no use for purchasing an email list because most email marketing companies like Aweber don't want anything to do with it. What you do want is an OPT IN list that you build yourself through free and paid marketing.

Now, there are some "List Brokers" that have connections to buyers lists, but typically what they do is they negotiate an offer with the list owner to do a solo ad and they receive a part of the commission for putting the deal together. But you never want to actually "buy" the list itself, that's a horrible mistake and can get you blacklisted.

Small Business Owner Exact Data Experience.
    1. Several conversations with Sales Rep who told me that the list I was purchasing (100K = $4,000) would be targeted to my demographic - sports and very open to my emails and made me feel as though I was not spamming. I was told these were legit people I would be connecting with (not true).

    2. I deployed through Exact Data and got around a 5% combine open/clicked rate (5K). According to the sales rep these users shown interested and would be considered double opted in. I could take these opted in user and mail through Amazon or Mailchimp and so on.
$4,000 for 5K "opted in users" is a horrible horrible return.

    3. I did a test sample of these opted in's (500 only on each) on Amazon and Mailchimp. My account was intermediately suspended at both places.
Even the opted in ones are usable. Nothing from any list you purchase from them, even if you deploy with them will ever be usable at a legit mailing service. I resolve my issue with them and learned the only way to send to people from their list is through one of their recommend third party senders that allow purchased list at a high price.

After finding that the list I purchase was absolutely unusable I did some more research.

    4. I hired on a company to scrub, clean and run the list against their suppression lists using the 100K final list I got from Exact Data.

I was returned a list of 65K. Also more then half the ones that Exact Data claimed opened or clicked "double opted-in" were removed as well. The scrubber I worked with said that about 20K were spam traps/honeypots and the other out ones were set as complainers (will report you as spam).

To which Exact Data replied all third party list can contain a Small account of spam traps. Roughly 35% of a list being spam traps and honeypots is hardly a small amount.

    Conclusion from my experience:
    1. A list you buy from Exact Data can never be used on any popular legit mailing service (Constant Contact, Amazon, Aweber, Mailchimp and so on).
It can only be used with a platform provider that allows third party list usage - very expensive and slimy.
    2. Their list are sold multiple times and are very dirty.
    3. Their list contain tons of spam traps and honeypots all meant to you in trouble.
    4. As far as I am concerned you can't use their list. Throwing money away.
    5. Their legal documents you sign cover them for any complaints you might have.

Do not under any circumstance do business with this company. Don't buy anything. Unethical company.
Do not trust or believe what the sales people say.
Please don't be a fool like I was. Horrible, stupid experience. Shocking they are on BBB with a positive rating at all - makes you wonder about them too...

I have never bought emails for this, and I am very much confident in suggesting you to not to waste your money in buying such packages.
Someone has a list of thousands of active emails, and he is selling the same emails to many customers. Those customers are sending their emails for marketing to those thousands of emails. If you are the owner of one of the emails, and you are getting lots of promotional emails every day, will you care to read such emails anymore? Clearly, this is all spam.

I have been monetizing purchased data for over 16 years.

Buying data from large brokers like Exact Data, you will overpay!!!

$4K for a 5K list is pure insanity.

It's all about getting a small, but large enough sample and testing. From the test, you will have an idea of how long it will take to break-even and what it is truly worth.

Also, most of what I do is generating leads. So I'm not trying to sell anything. It is far easier to get someone to fill out a form, than take out their credit card and make a purchase.

Have all data cleaned by a reputable list hygiene service.

    Buy data from reliable sources

Any data you purchase, even after being cleaned can potentially generate complaints. However, there are ways to mitigate. Additionally, if any source(where data is coming from / not who is selling it) generates excessive complaints, then drop that individual source.

It's not all about the data you initially buy. You want to always be segmenting opens/clickers and removing unresponsive users. Essentially you want to convert the data from quantity to quality.

I get there are the naysayers, but this is usually because they read that buying data doesn't work and then preach it as the truth or they tried it and didn't know what they were doing and failed.

By no means an I saying it is for everyone. IMO, it is really more of a business model than a traffic strategy. However, monetizing purchased data is BIG business and can be extremely profitable. Everyone that I know that is in the business, that knows what they are doing, mostly do 6-7 figures...depending on what stage they are at. While that is a huge range, much comes down to ones ability to scales and effectively manage/build the infrastructure needed to scale.

I personally would never buy an email list if you want everything to be legal and long term. The reason for that is, not only it is somewhat spam... but people don't know you at all. They won't have any kind of connection to you and therefore probably won't click on links from strangers... they need to trust you in order to click a link just like that.

You can buy targeted data where the users have given permission to receive messages from 3rd parties.

Sending 3rd party data is 100% legal / can-spam compliant.

Granted that data that you purchase isn't going to be as responsive as an opt-in list you build yourself. But it really doesn't matter, because you can buy data for much less and scale much quicker that you can building.

You just have to know what you are doing.

The most responsive list is the list you build yourself. You can build a relationship and ask them what they need and supply the needs. The list you buy is a list of strangers and you are a stranger to them. And how many people are buying that same list? It is easy for them to not know they opted in to receive your message and can easily complain you are a spam sender. To which you have no optin form recorded... This buying lists sounds dangerous and unproductive if not illegal.
