Email list... How do I utilize the list to make money?

I am new to all of this and maybe I just don't know enough to ask the right questions but I am lost. I see tons of WSO's to build email lists. Once you build an email list.. how do you utilize that list? I have thousands of email addresses just from networking for years and years but how can I use this list of thousands to my benefit?

Maybe I am thinking about it the wrong way? Is an "email list" not a literal list of emails? Or is it and I should just "share" an affiliate product to the entire list?

Maybe someone here can help me shed some light. I am kind of a tech nerd and learning about SEO, affiliate marketing, Objective C and eclipse for android coding amongst other things as well. I have been trying to understand email lists and how to implement them but I keep running around in circles.

Thank you in advance and I apologize if this has already been brought up, I just can't find a solid answer.

    Depends on the list.

How you collected the email addresses?

What is your list basically interested in?

    What is your objective?

You just cannot send any affiliate offer to your list and expect money, it does not work this way.

An email list is a more of a relationship list - where you build a relationship with your list, and then you can make money from them - not necessarily though, depends on the goals of the list owner.

Perhaps the most important question at this moment is, how you built your list? Does people in your list know that they are in your list?

That makes sense. It is just a list of all the people I know and/or worked with over the years. It's about 4-5k long but it's not a list that they "signed up" for.

With that being said, I probably wouldn't want to use that list. How would I go about building a list without having to buy a WSO? Because, unfortunately, my wife and I just moved and money is extremely tight and I can't just buy WSO after WSO until I find one that works.

Just curious, you would build a list (not sure how) then you basically send out an email blast containing the affiliate link and information?

As already pointed by Ledux, you need email marketing service and a squeeze page to start building your list.

If you are absolutely new to list building (or email marketing) then the right thing to do is learn about it. You can choose to surf around the internet and this very forum to find more about email marketing. Though buying a course (a good one) will make things easy for you.

Let me point out something, there isn't just one good way to earn money from your list. Yes you can send them emails with your affiliate links but it is not the only way to monetize your list. You have so many options to choose from. You can sell your own product/service, you can drive traffic to your site/blog, you can do a lot of things with your list, you have to be creative.

It needs time and of course capital too. The best email marketing services aren't free. Squeeze pages aren't free to create, hosting, domain registration, copy writing and the hardest part, driving traffic to your squeeze page (where people will enter their email address and opt in to your list). It is pretty much a full business model.

An email list that people are talking about in internet marketing isn't your Gmail contacts list. It's a list of people who signed up to your email list.

Now, to build a list you need an autoresponder (Aweber, getresponse, Imnica mail). Once you have set up an autoresponder you need to create a website with an optin form for people to sign up.

Next, you drive traffic to that page and people will sign up. Once you have a list of at least one subscriber you can start sending him emails.

To start seeing sales you actually need to build a pretty big list and it needs to be targeted. I know I have only scratched the surface here, there are so many more step involved in between, but this is the basic overview.

your contact list won't really like to receive any emails that didn't sign up for. you'll have to build a new list. One in which people give you their emails because you have sparked interest.

I suggest you learn about email marketing through YouTube. you'll be surprised at how simply they can explain it. I don't recommend you buy courses as you and your wife already are having financial issues.
The best bet is to get free information via YouTube and blogs.

    Best of luck!

It's not necessarily the size of the list that matters, but the quality. You key is to use the capture page as a sort of filter that eliminates those who are not likely to be interested in the offers you promote.

I like to keep my list extremely targeted and responsive.

    Basically it works thus;
Someone might be interested in Wordpress plugins that help expose a blog to get more veiwers on it, and you already know people all over search for this every now and then so you basically offer this plug in as an incentive to get the person to partner with you for future interactions, so you show someone how to get the Plugin basically free but they're gonna confirm they want to be receiving emails and other cool offers/stuff from you.

That's basically, but it could more involved. It could be done both the right way and the wrong way ( where you do not know to what degree one is interested in seeing your offers, and you don't care to find out).

Once you get confirmation from somebody, it will be easy to weigh how much your relationship may be worth and gear that up to success. It's all simple when you can understand it, and the more you put yourself into it, the more...

Adonawa, here's how you should see the whole thing:

Let's say you're interested in fishing. You build a website, and you put an opt-in box in the sidebar. (Alternatively, you can also create a squeeze page, which is a page where the only way "out" is by either closing the webpage, or signing-up for emails.)

Next, people come to your website (or squeeze page), look around, and some of them decide to sign-up for your emails. The better-sounding you make the offer of signing-up, the more will.

Now, you can send them emails with more information on fishing. From time to time (or depending on your strategy), you can recommend them to buy products you make money from, such as e-books or physical products from Amazon or other affiliate platforms.

This, in a nutshell, is called a "sales funnel."

For this whole thing to work, you need:

    a) hosting for your website (obviously).
    b) an email service provider like Aweber or Getresponse that will store your email list, and from where you'll send the emails. There are two ways to send them emails: either automatically, by setting up an autoresponder sequence, or manually, by sending them "broadcasts" whenever you want.
    c) products to promote, which you can find on ClickBank, Amazon or other affiliate networks such as Commission Junction, ShareASale, etc.

This is just the gist of it obviously, but it should give you a better understanding.

^ that should get you up and running pretty good.

If you need tips on actually emailing to your list, make sure you always try to provide some type of value. That doesn't mean you can never promote.

Write an email about a problem in their niche. Talk about a solution but don't actually reveal what that solution is. Tell them what to do not how to do it.

Then you just link them to the product to get the full scoop.

Tip: Don't do hard selling as it would piss off your subscribers and would eventually force them to unsubscribe from your list..
Best is to provide them something valuable such as an eBook or a free guide after which you can sell them your products or affiliate links
    Thanks

Provide good quality content to your list and you can monetize without selling by pay per lead offers.

Here's a question : Do you know what your list wants?

If so, you can try warming them up by sending them helpful information that you believe can help them, once they start to trust you , you can sell a related item in your newsletter, but above all always making sure you provide value to them. If you truly help your niche they will buy from you and trust you and you can sell to them over and over again. However if list is unresponsive, or never opted in , it's a good idea to remove them off your list.
