What are the biggest challenges you have or have had with building a list?

Hi everyone, what are the biggest challenges you face when trying to build a responsive list?

Is it getting traffic?
Is it getting the squeeze pages done?
Is it knowing what copy to write on your squeeze pages?
Is it knowing what to offer to get people on your list?
Is it knowing what to do once you build your list?
Is it knowing how to write to your list?
Is it finding offers to promote to your list?

This could be an issue you are having right now or perhaps you could share what you have struggled with in the past and overcome.

Really interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks

My issue is that I am not sure if the person that opts in to my list actually interested in what I have to offer.

If you present something like an eBook about getting traffic, And the visitor putted his/her email. Then the visitor actually like to receive traffic related offers.

        Great answer.

        Traffic sources i recommend:
PPC & PPV, Forum Marketing, Press Releases

The biggest issue to was how to drive traffic which converts too...and to me i found the solution in Forum Marketing and most of all - finding JV Partners for selling my own products.

        Hope this helps

The one universal problem affecting everyone is just getting people to join at rates they once did. The trend of offering something for free postponed the funeral for squeeze page list building, but it's still a challenge compared to 10-15 years ago.

I don't think that's the main problem to be honest, but it depends on the traffc source.

The main problem is whether or not the person that opts in to your list WANTS to be on your list.

I'm testing now something using double confirmation:
-> On the thank you page i ask: "Do you want to receive the info and receive related info, please confirm your email address."
-> At the bottom i add a link saying: "If not, here's a cool free offer" which links to a PPL program that pays me $1 for single opt ins.

The thought behind this is that people who don't even want to confirm their email will never open my other emails anyways, plus i get paid anyways.

Works ok so far, need more testing..

  • I'm always trying to test and tweak my squeeze page to get the highest conversions. For me, that is always my biggest challenge.

Getting traffic and the other mentioned aspects have never been a problem. The biggest challenge for me has been managing time.

While not directly answering your question, I want to point out something I see over and over again, which I consider to be a very big problem: marketers not treating visitors and subscribers with respect and not realizing they're actual human beings who get turned off by...

... sales pitch after sales pitch.

    ... bait and switch techniques.

... serious grammar and spelling mistakes.

... incredibly annoying pop-ups that just won't go away!

... being sent to cheesy and sneaky sales pages.

And that's from the top of my head.

It is not a problem for me, but I know to countless students of mine and just from many people here....what to say in emails and how to write to your Subs in a content rich and very persuasive tone seems to be a huge problem.

As well as just keeping a good balance in salesmanship and mentor-ship

I agree with you completely....at the end of the day...your dealing with "people" ..understanding human nature...really understanding it would be the resolution to all of your challenges.

      To your success,
