Has anyone paid for email list?

We just finished a sale (did very well) and wanted to be constructive during lull after sale. Was thinking of buying email list for our niche. Can these email list get very specific? (for example: female, 25-40, certain ethnicity). And how do you confirm the emails are active.

Thanks in advance
C

Yes; many people have. My strong suspicion is that 99.9% of them have been extremely disappointed by the results, and this thread explains why, at some length and in some detail: http://www.warriorforum.com/email-ma...ml#post9331922

I wouldn't bother unless the list came from a
    list broker.

    Like Nextmark.

Other than that, you're probably better off just
setting up some paid ads on FB and drive 'em
    to an opt-in page.

      thanks tony,
I actually email Nextmark. As for facebook, would you set up account for each country and drive ad campaigns to them or just have one facebook page for US & Int'l.

      Thanks

Depends on the market. I would start it off that way at first and spend
        the money upfront for testing.

Once you start getting responses and conversions, then just drop the
other ads that aren't converting and redline the ones that are.

Your priority would be to prioritize one account / fan page. Then you can start using this to drive traffic by using Facebook PCC.

Assuming you know how to drill down your targeting well, it shouldn't be much of an issue. But always keep an eye on your demographics. Read the reports after a few days testing, and see what adjustments can be made.

I'd prioritize one country to begin with until you've drilled down a solid targeted demographic audience campaign, then scale other countries, you intend on doing business with from there.

I would learn how to dig your own well. Generating your own leads is the best way to go. Most email leads are too unresponsive.

Your own leads will always be the best way to go. But purchasing email lists seems to be a "quick" fix. How are you planning to mail them?

I know aweber or getresponse won't allow you to import a purchased email list, unless you lie of course. They've been cracking down lately, be careful! All the best.

Unless you're talking about a niche industry with a niche product and have run the list through a cleaning services, I don't know how you can pull it off with any of the major email service providers. Maybe with a self-hosted solution with an SMTP service, but even that takes some serious know-how when it comes to deliverability.

Here's an answer I provided someone that asked, "What is the best email marketing service for purchased lists?" Hope it helps...

There is no such animal. No legit email marketing services allow purchased lists. Not saying you can't upload a purchased list to the likes of Aweber, Constant Contact, GetResponse or MailChimp (or any others), but you won't get far. Most will test the validity of the subscribers and not allow it. And if you do pass that hurdle, you're more than likely to get spanked (or banned) if you are able to email that list, because in all likelihood, the list will be filled with too many bounces and complaints.

Your only option is to go with a self-hosted solution (Interspire Email Marketer or Sendy) that you host on a dedicated or VPS and use a SMTP relay service (or Amazon SES). But, you're still likely screwed, unless you're talking about a quality list of people interested in the niche content you have. If you and your list fit in that category, you will want to first use a list cleaning service to remove bad/dead email addresses, read about how to maximize your opportunity for success from deliverability guides (links below) and make sure whatever you email is of amazing quality that those on the list will want to consume.

For one client we had great success in buying emails but this came from a recognised list broker who we knew had up to date relevant list for our chosen market (uk health insurance renewal dates).

I'd recommmend starting small if you go down this route and see if they broker will supply you with their hotlist. You'll also want to check whether you are buying or renting and how many uses you arre allowed.

We did this and had some encouraging results, the secret for us was driving this traffic to our own opt in. The beauty of this market is that generally their ren dates don't change.

I've never bought emails from any other source but i don't think i would feel comfortable.

If you can find a very reputable linkedin email web researcher who can generate a list containing a very targeted individual, I think its worth paying for a list. You can use mailchimp for your campaign.

Strange, though, that all the people with real experience seem to feel so very differently about it from you?

      Not so.

They don't allow anyone to import a "bought list".

And neither does any other hosted autoresponder service, by the way. Does that tell you anything?

I have paid for email list. I regret it though. I purchased emails through get response, but they took forever to be delivered to me. Also, they were not responsive. However, that is just my experience. I would test and continue if you see positive results.
