use single opt-in or double opt-in?

Hi guys!

I would like to know what is best in Adwords and Bing PPC: single optin squeeze page or double optin?

I personally prefer and I'm using double optin. I would like to know what performs better on Adwords and Bing PPC.

    Hi Alex,

it depends on what goal you would like to achieve...

What are you promoting on Google Adwords/Bing Ads?

I think this is something that you are going to have to test for yourself.

    Hi Alex,

both Opt In Methods have their pros and cons, i will give you a short overview based on my experience:

    Single Opt In

    PROS:
+ Very good if you plan to build a huge list because no one needs to confirm the mail address
+ You can after they opt in to your list instantly redirect the visitor to a sales page or something similar
+ You can also transfer your email list to other autoresponder providers if you like to choose another one

    CONS:
+ You may get a lot of Fake Emails on your list because a lot of them only want to see what's behind your Squeezepage

    Double Opt In

    PROS
+ Your List might be more responsive
+ You are protected agains spam complaints
+ Of course, you have a smaller List, but you may more emails actually reach people’s inboxes intact.

    CONS
+ Your List will be smaller
+ Some Subscribers will not confirm their Email Address

    Summary
I personally use most of the time Single Opt In because i don't to stress the subscriber with to much effort.

        Personally I would do this:

        MY AIM:
        1. To get the email address that actually subscriber uses. Not like get one freebie and discard type email.
        2. Because they are coming from paid ads, I would like to make it less painful to the subscriber.

So I will go with single opt-in BUT make sure they receive 2 - 3 emails with something useful based on niche. like some free software or login info to a private area...

I think You Can customize your Confirmation page... But The worst thing is that when someone confirmed the email the list name shows there.......

My rule of thumb is, if you are using paid traffic ALWAYS go single optin. You want to get as many subscribers as you can because you are paying money for the traffic. If you are driving free traffic you can test double optin, but personally I always go with single optin.

i would single optin when starting out but double optin when I am more experienced to build a higher quality list.

Like the person above mentioned, for paid traffic single optin but if free traffic say posting a free wso sinlge optin

I go single Opt-In all day long.

It's simple, a lot of people argue that double Opt-In gives more quality subscribers and yes it does.

    BUT

Single Opt-In gives you all of the quality subscribers you get from double Opt-In PLUS a lot of others witch may not be of that high quality but still leads.

    For example...

If using double Opt-In gives you 1000 quality subscribers from one promotion.

And the same promotion doing single Opt-In would give you the same 1000 quality subscribers plus an additional 500 active subscribers so there's a total of 1500 subscribers including the same from double Opt-In.

    Which one do you chose?

For years I always used double opt in because I was constantly being told how my emails would not be delivered, or Aweber could close my account if I had too many complaints etc. However, in the last couple of years I have used single opt in and had no problems at all. There may be slight differences in delivery, opens and click through rates, but nothing dramatic. I now prefer to use single opt in overall.

In general, double optins are HQ.On the other hand, double optins are low converters.I prefer using single optins,as most people enter their real email address, but are lazy to open their email and click on a link.

I do agree to a point. However, it's not entirely down to pure laziness. There is an increasing number of people using mobile/cell phones for internet use, resulting in many new subscribers signing up whilst on the go via their phones. But they do not check emails until later that day (non vital ones from their point of view anyway), and confirmation messages often get missed and deleted.

as an AR/ESP we dont normally recommend single opt-in cause on the IM niche loads of people use fake emails to just grab the freebies but for paid advertising with PPC single opt-in would be the best.

you just need to nurture them correctly to avoid their incompetence (signing up on your list and then accuse you to the AR/ESP for spamming them) even they signed up with their own consent

It completely depends on what you're wanting to do with the list, double opt in will definitely increase your email responses

"Double opt-in" is a misnomer. Subscribers are not opting-in twice, they are confirming that they opted-in (i.e., "confirmed opt-in").
