SMTP.com is a popular one. So is Amazon SES (part of their marketing platform).

Keep in mind that using an SMTP service doesn't automatically take the inboxing responsibility out of your hands. Your own hosting IP, your domain, and the repetitive style of your emails still account for your inbox rate due to the RAZOR fuzzy checksum.

You may want to try using Gmail SMTP servers then.

I have used almost every SMTP service out there. Some are good but expensive. And others are cheap but does not get good inbox rates. The best one I found that had the best of both worlds is Sendgrid. But you want to use the Sendgrid Lite option. Their prepaid versions are kind of expensive but the "Lite plan is .10/ thousand sends. And their inbox rate is awesome!

From what I understand that LITE plan is limited to only transactional emails. You could not send broadcast or newsletter emails using the Lite Plan. Or at least you're not supposed to.

Really learning from you guys here. Thanks for your contributions.

@OTrap . Kindly educate me on the best practises to send emails to ensure inbox delivery (when using a premium smtp server like amazonses or sendgrid).
    My questions:

    (1) when sending with a smtp service, which IP is used? smtp's or hosting provider's ?

    (2) what repetitive style is best? Is it okay to send the same message to thousands of subscribers
    OR different messages ?

    (3) How does domain play a role in inbox delivery? what should be done about domain?

    Thanks.

Try using Amazon SES. There is a hosted email client which I use personally MailGet which connects with Amazon SES for email sending. It's pretty good.

    HI Rachid,

there are emailers type who needs such smtp, like people want to send 10k emails per day? and some people want to send 1million emails per day?
so for 10k per day, mendrill is best smtp solution and for 1million emails per day custom smtp solution is best idea.
You can always guess mendrill wont give you lots of credits for few dollars

Hello, I have been through almost every SMTP service out there extensively. I have dedicated 3 months so far to just learning as many as I can. There are ups and downs, goods and bads, of every SMTP service I have seen out there. But if you want the one single service that had the best over all positives vs. negatives going for it, I would have to say "Sendgrid". I wouldn't even bother with Mandrill anymore. They have changed their rules and what they are looking for. They throw your emails in backlog almost immediately if they don't know who you are yet. And they do not like internet marketers. There are some other really good ones out there but they are very expensive. So you need to be making certain income/mo to make it worth the added expenses.

How do you compare SendGrid and Amazon SES ?

Amazon seems to ban account very quickly if they suspect any form of email marketing. If you have a very specific niche with very responsive subs and they dont hit spam very much at all then you could use Amazon. Sendgrid will still ban you for spammy email marketing as well, but they have a bit more of a leeway than Amazon. Plus, the cost with Sendgrid is very reasonable. If you choose the "Sendgrid Lite" plan then it is only .10/1000 emails.

SendGrid and Amazon SES are good options.
They are cheap and have relatively good delivery overall.

I am using amazon SES for my business. Amazon SES provides 10,000 email per day for free of cost. You could try the amazon SES

About Amazon SES, I wouldn't recommend it,
if You will receive few complains Your acc will be banned very quickly,
so don't waste Your time on it.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[10056158].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author webbusineses
Well the solution will depend on your list. Agreed with qba82, Amazon SES will going to suspend your account on receiving complaint, and it start suspecting the account that receives bounces more than usual. Provider like SendGrid, SMTP also won't allow sending unsolicited emails. Therefore, if the list isn't hygienic, the only choice to send is your own server.

Sendgrid and other SMTP providers are bit expensive and quick to close accounts if they feel the email lists are not good.

I know this is an old thread that popped up, but in case anyone is reading it.

If your sending promotional email, which I'm guessing that is what everyone is talking about here. Then using smtp services can be more expensive than using autoresponder service depending on the size of your list and frequency that you send to it.

Autoresponders charge you for how many contacts exists and have unlimited sending. While smtp services charge on volume and they charge a premium for promotional messages. Which in the end, smtp's can end up costing significantly more if you are aggressively(frequently) mailing your list.

You need to figure how often you are mailing your list and what that translates into total volume and then compare it with the smtp promotional email costs and see which is cheaper.

You will need a VPS account with a service provider. There are several out there. I shopped around and I use Ipage.com. There may be a better one, but I got tired of looking.

There are few great SMTP services namely:
    1. SendGrid
    2. MailGun
    3. Amazon SES
    4. Mandrill
    5. Netcore
    6. Authmailer
    7. Elastic Email
    8. SMTP.com
    9. SMTP Provider
    10. Postmark

there are tons of other email SMTP services as well that can be used for sending emails.

Once you have an SMTP, look for a nice email marketing front-end where you can plug the SMTP services for sending emails.

    I recommend using
    1. Ongage (though its a little expensive)
    https://www.ongage.com/

    2. MailGet ( I use this myself and it is really nice.)
    http://www.formget.com/mailget

If you have huge sending volume, I recommend you to use SMTP routing feature in any of the applications above.
