Got 450+ subscribers, 0 sales, I'm I doing something wrong?

by Isandy

I don't want to reveal the product that I'm promoting because it's not something that I've created, it's an affiliate product and I don't want to throw bad words on it, because someone else can have great results with it right now.

What I want to know for real is if there is something wrong that I'm doing or that the product is over promoted now that people don't buy it anymore.

I'm assuming you have made an email list out of all these people? Do you send out helpful information often and your product link out from time to time as well?

Why don't you ask the 450 subscribers why they didn't buy? Of course you'll have to brainstorm a delicate way to ask. But really, only they can tell you.

Yes, I've created an email list of these people, and I'm promoting on a regular basis but not in all emails.
I send useful information between 1 or 2 days and after 2 or 3 emails of inf. I send them a promotion in 2 or 3 days.

Yeah, I agree with Markets. You should send out valuable info that they can use too. Whether that is a blog post or video (doesn't have to be by you, just make it relevant) or a tip that can help them. If your emails are all sell sell sell, they will be turned off and not want to buy from you. Also, check how often your emails are being opened. That can give you a good idea of how many people see what you are selling. Check that the link is clickable in your email post. I have seen a couple of email list owners who don't have clickable links. How many people are going to want to cut & paste just to get to your offer? Not many. Make it as easy as you can for them.

There is one good strategy of the first touch that sells up front that I use (and not only me, of course). Do you separate "content" and "selling"?

I mean, very often we do like this: here is my useful content that I promised you for your email. And here is my selling video/page/webinar where I will ask you to buy smth.

Only 10-15% of all subscribers will pay attention to your selling step. Most of them stop on the content. So it's better not to separate "content" and "selling".

People are subscibed for a useful video or a webinar replay - and this useful video IS the selling one at the same time. So almost 100% of your subscribers receive the "selling message" of yours.

But here you should make sure that your video or webinar is not only about selling but it also gives real value. Otherwise you risk to burn out your list very quickly. I never tried it with affilates but it also should work I think.

Congrats on building a list with 450 subscribers -- that's a great start!

Not sure what the problem is without more information on the product, but I can give you my thoughts on this.

I suggest you build a relationship with your list before you try to sell anything. You can build a relationship by providing good and actionable information to them for free. I'm talking about really useful information that will help them solve a problem, or ease a condition, provide comfort, or whatever.

People are turned off by emails that do nothing but try to sell a product or service, but they are much more receptive to emails that help them in some way. So give your subscribers something of value that they need and can use for free, without a hint of a sales pitch.

After a series of helpful emails that provide great tips and info, your subscribers will begin to trust you more, and expect nothing but valued content from you. And of course, that is what you will continue to give them to build that trust--only emails with value.

Then at some point, when you finally pitch them your product, they will perceive it as having value as well, because it's coming from you, and they know you only send emails with value. You have built a relationship with people who trust your recommendations, and you now have a much higher likelihood of making some sales.

Thanks for that, this is another thing that I have noticed, my open rate is between 1% to 8% (Too low I think) and of course all my links are clickable I always check that.

Firstly, what's your open rate? That is your starting point.

If only 1 person out of the 450 recipients is actually opening your email, you obviously have an issue with your subject and credibility.

If your open rate is very good (around 15-20%), then you need to analyse what percentage of them are clicking on your affiliate link.

If the percentage clicking on your affiliate link is high, it means the product itself has a poor sales page or just isn't desirable.

If the percentage clicking on your affiliate link is low, it means you either have an untargetted audience or you don't write very compelling copy.

My open rate is below 7%, I think is too low and I want to increase that.

I'm starting branding myself, that's something that have to do with my credibility I believe but the sales page is of poor quality too.

Very useful thanks for the advise.

It seems likely, but it's close-to-impossible for anyone to know what it is without seeing everything you're doing (always difficult, in a forum, understandably.)

There are about 11-12 different, fairly common reasons for this to happen, but in reality the explanation is nearly always a combination of a few of them, in varying degrees.

    A few little questions ...

    1. Does the product you're promoting have a "vendor's opt-in" on its sales page?

    2. What's your open-rate? (Edited to add: ok, just noticed it in your post above. Yes, it's horribly, dramatically low: http://www.warriorforum.com/email-ma...ml#post8661178 )

    3. Which autoresponder company are you using?

    4. Does whatever you're giving people in exchange for their email addresses fulfil all the purposes explained here?

The thread belongs here, actually: Email Marketing

      To answer all your questions...

      1. All the links on the sales page are just to buy the product.

      2. The first email has a 30% open rate and the second one a 12% but after that all of them are below 7%

      3. The autoresponder is Aweber and I'm hosting the squeeze page there.

      4. The relevance of the things that I promote are good to my knowledge, but maybe I'm lacking of some quality.

      Thanks for everything!

First try to build trust with those subscribers by offering them useful advice and distributing some useful free ebooks. After that obviously you will make some sales. Good Luck!

Respectfully, you seem to be missing the point that 7 out of 10 people who subscribe aren't even opening the first email.

Something's dramatically wrong there, and it can hardly be connected with the content of the emails, can it, if they're not being opened? Which is why I'm asking about what incentive is being offered to subscribers in exchange for their email addresses, and whether it serves all the purposes explained here.

(But I'm also wondering whether the open-rate statistics are actually reliable/correct.)

Difficult to say much more, without seeing.

It's too vague for anyone to really help you.

    - Your open rates should be well into the double digits and not 7%
    - Yours newsletter should be ehlpful so people are curious and want to open your emails
    - Your recommendations/affiliate offers need to be relevant and high quality (otherwise you'll just have someone unsubscribe after buying a crappy product - and if you don't want to get repeat buyers you may as well stick to PPC/SEO etc. without the list)

Try to build strong remationship with your subscribers to sell them this year and next year. even many years
you are building a tribe. give value, i don't understand why people have a business online and don't want to invest in buying value from experts to offer to your clients. bring new content and inform your subscribers about that so they can find . concentrate on solving their problems . good luck

Alexa smith above gave you excellent answer

Make sure your squeeze page aligns with the OTO/product you are promoting. If your squeeze page gives away a tip about making money with blogs, make sure the product is related to that.

Well What I'm doing right now is sending broadcast to all my subscribers and getting new ones.
Also I'm studying and researching the way to write enticing subject lines and more about list building to promote and to build trust with my subscribers.

Thanks for all the help and all the insights, really appreciate it.

How is your call to action? Once you've gotten through writing the email, whether it's just helpful content or advertising your product, you should make sure that your call to action does what it's supposed to do, and that is to have them click on your links. Since your opening rate is low, you could try changing the way you do your subject headers in the first place. Make it more engaging. Use words that will make them want to open it. An opening with numbers, such as discounts, or statistics, could help.

It's very hard to say why subscribers haven't bought your offer. A good way to get a feel for what your subscribers want is to run a questionnaire via SurveyMonkey or similar. Give them a multiple choice of sectors to choose from ie; Make Money On Line, Forex, Amazon etc. Ask what form they prefer products ie: ebook, video, physical product etc. Go through 4 or 5 questions that you think would give you the best picture of what your audience is looking for.

I would say, no, you aren't doing anything wrong.

You simply now have data and need to make some changes.

Traffic / email followups / product / and or even the angle you choose to attack when promoting it as an affiliate.

By my own standards and others I have worked with , if you have a tactical approach to constructing and sending out Follow Ups and Broadcasts you should have at least a few sales.

Without knowing your exact action taken though, it is hard to pinpoint anything.

I have to agree with Gavin about what you're using for your traffic source. Most of the solo ads that you will get these days will send you subscribers who optin to get your freebie and then don't interact from then on. They are the worst forms of subscribers and you can assume if you got 400 optins from one of them then there are probably only about 30 people, at the most, on your list who actually may be interested in reading your content. It will take you a lot longer to build their trust up before you can start selling to them.

    Hi Mr Isandy,

before you promote a product to your list - i'd recommend to survey them for a few times to get an idea what they are interested in to buy.

Another way is - depending how you've build your list - to hammer them 2-3 times per day with this offer...

    Have a nice day
