Best Time To Send Emails?

In your own opinion what do you think is the best time to send emails? assuming you have a worldwide subscriber list, this is where it gets confusing for me because everyone has different timezones so which timezone is best to pick and at what time is best to send emails for the best open and click through rate?

thanks

  • One of the top email marketing coaches out there by the name of Terry Dean said a few years ago that the best time to send an email out to your list is at around 2pm local time. I don't remember why but most of my emails are send at that time.

The title of your email also makes a big difference in email open rate.

    • thanks for your reply, when you say 2pm local time, in which timezone do you mean? say i have a list of worldwide subscribers, would i need to send out at 2pm GMT or EST etc etc?

  • It depends on your list. I market to one industry and even within that industry, there are two optimal times based on the persons title (role within the company).

MailChimp allows you to do what is called TimeWarp where it sends at a certain time (2PM) based on that persons timezone. So everyone gets it at 2PM their local time.

MailChimp also now pays attention to your list and when each list is more likely to open emial. It will suggest it for you when you get ready to send your email.

As for day of the week, since I work with businesses, I mail Monday through Thursday. Lighther volumes on Monday and Friday and hardly any on the weekends.

    • Hi,

This can be confusing and you are right, everyone has different time zone.

However, it is really not that necessary to consider because, no matter what time-zone someone has, they are going to be online whenever they want.

Such as; there are many people who are awake all the night and some sleep at night.

Some people do not check their email so often (same factor here, as it depends on their choice).

While there is something I wanna say, when I was setting up my campaign in GetResponse, I had an option to send follow-up emails to people (at the time of their subscription).

So, if you set up several follow-up emails, these will be sent to subscribers at time of their subscription (which makes a lot more sense and it tells what time was right for the person to receive the email).
  • The best time to send emails is Monday to Friday people are to busy on weekends doing other stuff.
  • Test and see which time works best for you and your list. Just because 2 pm works best for most people it doesn't necessarily mean that it is best for your list.

    Test, test and test :-)
  • I recently did some research on this subject and found that Thursdays and Tuesdays are the best days to send for both open rates and CTR. The other weekdays were lower but only by 1%. So for example Thursday open rates were 9% compared to Monday at 8%. The weekends CTR rates especially drop off as people are doing family time and are not focused on their emails as much. The most active time of day for weekdays is from 12-5 according to my research. Hope this info helps.
  • I have also good results with emails early in the morning and late evening. I actually don`t know why, but I have tested it over years and it seems to be the best for my list. I think the most important thing is interesting Subject. After years of testing, I get also the best results when I have my real Name and Surname in field "name", not company name or something similar.

    • There is no general best time just a best time for your list.

You need to test and tweak and see what works..

mine is monday or friday and 9am local...

  • Hmm.. well, timing might be important when sending emails but for me what matter is the email's subject headline.
  • I've been testing this for years and I'll share my findings...

Of course the niche has something to do with it but I always send emails out at 9:47am local time Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.

I've tried all different times and the worst results were on the weekend. Most normal people don't check their email on the weekends. They like to check it all Monday morning when it piles up...

Also Monday and Friday have been bad for me... Here's why... Monday, people are so overwhelmed with getting back to work, catching up, picking up slack and are in "work mode", "getting back into the swing of things mode" and not in the mood to buy or read new things - I'm guessing because they drank too much, spent too much or splurged too much over the weekend.

Friday is bad because people are set on the weekend and don't care about reading newsletters or buying products because they have tunnel vision for the weekend.

You def get the best results sending emails on Tues, Wed and Thurs not super early but about an hour -three hours into the work day. I think after lunch works as well. This part of the week us working stiffs get board and when the boss isnt looking, we check personal email, buy stuff we don't need, and go to ebaumsworld to pass the time...

What better time to buy something, read an email about our hobby, or something that will benefit us instead of thinking about work!?

That's my advice, hope it helps, works for me and my list.

  • Time of emails sending is a factor, but you have to remember that which products are you promoting. If you are promoting dating products, relax, tour, holiday, music etc then it is better to send in Sunday. But if you are looking for promoting official products, you will not get so much benefit in Sunday. This is an average not exact.

Yes, afternoon is the best time of email opening. I have done many campaigns for the buyers and maximum opening rate I found in the official hours. You have not mentioned your targeted country. Search for the daylight time of the targeted country you need.

    • some bros mention weekend better don't send?

They claim as most people will be going out for drinks , family , friends?

I was thinking ...hard to say?

As I myself sometimes weekend like to stay at home surf net , watch video , chit chat online..
  • According to local timing 2 pm is the best is suitable time for emailing.
  • From my own data, I got best results sending between 11 a.m - 2 p.m Eastern time.

    Hope this helps.
  • You can send email on official times according to different timezone. I think this is the best time.
  • It depends...

    Regular email to:
working people, students, businesspeople - Monday...Thursday, after lunch (2 p.m local time)

    One-time/single email to:
businesspeople - Monday, "Before Sunrise" (7 a.m. local time)

  • I don't remember where I read it, but I heard that the best time for someone to receive an email is at 2 P.M. each day (after their lunch break I'm guessing). It's not the strategy I use, but then again, I'm weird
  • These general email send time tips are widely accepted by the email marketing community. They are great when you’re starting off, but be sure to read on and see why they won’t always work.

Daytime vs. Nighttime. While this one may be obvious, it’s usually better to send out your email campaigns during the daytime. You know, when people are awake. Not asleep.

    • There is no ideal time to send emails, you have to perfectly choose your subject title and you need to know your targets. It also depends on the type of your emails (marketing emails, notification emails ...)

For example, if you want to send your emails to people who work 9-5 the best option is to send your emails at night, because these people tend to check their emails frequently early in the day (but if you want them to take actions it's better to choose the afternoon).

And if you want to send your emails for example, to people who tend to work at home or students, adolescents, women ... the best choice is the afternoon.
  • Our affiliate network sees traffic spike early afternoon
  • Ultimately, I think the best thing is to test based on your list and see what works best.
  • catchy title of your mail or interesting header force the recipient to check your mail any time.

focus on matter and interesting header. in my office most of my friends open email for its content or subject, does not matter when they receive it.
  • I get best results at 8 am, 2 pm and 8 pm EST. But it depend from where majority of your list came from..
  • I don't think that there is absolute answer to this question, especially when your list is from worldwide.
You can do a little experiment by changing your mailing time and see which time is the best.
    Good luck
  • One source I saw online states that Thursday 8 – 9 am and Tuesday & Wednesday 8 – 10 am is THE perfect time to email your subscribers. Based on their research and experience. Worth trying it out.
  • I found tuesday mornings best for me
  • Mine is 2 pm during MON-THURS. But normally I would have them out at 0130 pm onward. It works well for me and I just simply stick to this period.
  • I don't know when is the best time but probably when you should send emails on Tuesdays - Thursdays. Mondays would be a hectic day. During Fridays businesses might have a lot of things to complete before weekend comes.
  • it is depend on your client country time, working hour is the best time i think.
  • To send the same email several times a day works. I don't know how true it is. Need to try.
