To build a list you must drive lotttttttttttts of traffic to your free offer/squeeze page.

Free traffic: You Tube videos, Twitter, Facebook Fan page, article writing & start a blog with a pop up opt in form from Mailchimp.

If you have an email list that has offers that convert then invest in some paid traffic. The top 3 that I recommend are solo ads, FB news feed ads & banner ads.

Give them away separately just have a landing page for each of them and create 2 lists in your autoresponder so the optins from each landing page go to different lists. That way you can monitor which gives you the most amount of optins and maybe scale that.

If you are thinking of using Mailchimp's free service, I'll advice you against it since you can't automate using the free service. And if you decide you want to pay, I'll advice you go for Getresponse - good support and fair pricing, perfect for internet marketers like ourselves.

Also, mailchimp will most likely ban you... I've had experience with them once.
