Segmenting List Question:

I watched a training on Digital Marketer about using engagement-based segmentation with your list.

This is how the process would work:

First email series: 7-day long email series to get clicks to another squeeze page, and further segmenting your list when they opt-in again (instead of doing it by clicks).

Then, a new follow up sequence would be triggered (3, 5, to 7+ days long).

He mentions that once they opt-in to the second squeeze page (say, day 1), they won't get anymore emails from the first series, only the second series.

How does this work? Is this automatic inside our email management software or is this a specified setting we can control?

I figured they would get emails from both autoresponder series which would make it whack.

The best thing you can do is put yourself out there.

List Automation, Automation Rules, Campaign Automation... each ESP has their own name for it.

The basic gist is of the automation is:

When (email) subscribes to (list/campaign) unsubscribe from (other list/campaign)

DM uses infusionsoft and maropost which is tag based instead of list based.

The way they do things is when you optin they set a tag for what you opted in for and put you through a funnel for it. If you fail to buy at any point through the funnel / whatever step you are at in the funnel and the campaign for that step ends, then they remove the tag and add a general broadcast tag..

Once on their broadcast they will hit you with offers and send some content, trying to squeeze you into another product If you optin to any squeeze page, then the broadcast tag is removed and a tag for the funnel that you opted into is added. While in the funnel you won't get any broadcast offers sent to you, so to not distract you.

Once you drop out, the process starts over and you are tagged for broadcast again.

Also while in a funnel, if you on your own optin to something else, then they will set another tag for it and put you through the funnel for it as well.

With aweber or getresponse they are list based, not tag based. Which is not as flexible. All you can do is remove a user from one list and add them to another.

Tag based is so much better than list based.

Lets say you have a funnel...Optin -> Tripwire -> Main Product -> Upsell -> etc

Every step of the way through your tunnel you can set and remove tags for where a user exist and hit them with a campaign specif to where you are with in the funnel. You can tag all products purchased, so if you do a flash sale you can easily exclude any user that purchased product X. If they drop out of a funnel, you can tag them for your main broadcast, etc, etc, etc...

You work on your old list assuming that your old list is already in your email software
