Many registrations on Wordpress

Hello Guys,

I observe that i am getting so many registrations on my wordpress blogs. Actually i did setting that anyone can leave comments but only after registration.

As i was keep getting registration, now i did it double opt-in by adding a plugin. but still getting registrations.

I added mailchimp subscribe 2-3 days back but no subscriptions yet.

I want to know -

1. Are the registrations i am getting on wordpress - can be used in my email list for mail marketing? i am afraid as bad mail ids can impact my account on mailchimp.

2. Why people registering? and not subscribing?

3. How to clean email list for free for these mail ids? i get one link where you can check one-by-one approx 20 mail ids per day but that's very time consuming.

4. People also fill mail ids while leaving comments. Can these also be used for mail mkting of my niche.

You must also be facing such things and must have better idea based on your experience.

What you all suggest to me.

Those may be spam registrations. There's actually software that people use which bombards a blog with spam comments after creating a bunch of fake accounts. Unfortunately, I can't remember how I stopped them on my old WordPress blog. The good news is that there are plugins that can reduce it, so check into some of them.

  • Yes those are bot generated users. You can stop this using free captcha plugins that add a captcha on the registration page. Installing one of these can stop the unnecessary registrations immediately.
