What to do with 20k Emails?

by Emp
19 replies
I have collected emails from different places. For example, I started a file upload site (free), and have thousands of real emails. However to be honest these people didnt opt in for marketing / advertisements. They registered to use my service

The emails are from all over the world
They are all real
They are unsorted, I dont know the country, interest, age, gender, etc

Any suggestions what I can do with them? How can I monetize it?
Also I think mailchimp wouldnt allow me to use their service to send emails. What email platform can I use to send emails to them?

Thanks

Is a litle hard to monetize now you list, because they probabily are cold email, they probabily forgot about your service, if you don't send email about updates, etc.

Now if you are planing in sending email using autoresponder or a email plataform, be careful because they can report you email like a spam.

The best advice that i can give you is try to contact with theirs first, try to see if they are really active, use you own Email Domain Address and if they are active and reply to you email, invite then to a optin page give someting for free and tell him that you going to put new updates about your services or create a blog an post updates about you site and monetize you blog with google adsense.

I Hope that this can help you, but is a litle hard to monetize 20k email that probabily are cold

If someone asked you to purchase that list, what would you be willing to pay them for it? Think about it. Maybe $0.00. That's exactly what it is worth to you, too.

While I don't disagree with this, I can see one reasonably safe way forward for you.

As customers of your service, you do have a right to mail them with service-related messages.

So do that, and use the opportunity to also announce a new (insert idea here) you are now offering. This new opportunity should incorporate a proper opt-in procedure to continue receiving messages from about about whatever it is you are now trying to do.

Prepare for about 1% of your list to move, unless the list is already very engaged with you (doesn't sound like it though) or the new offer is extraordinary.

Beating a dead horse. A lot of work to rekindle a couple of hundred names, at best. The effort would be better spent just starting from scratch, eliminating all doubt, going forward. Usually it's just better to cut your losses and move on.

Maybe. I certainly wouldn't pin all of my hopes on it. But I would incorporate it into my new grand plan

One of the big lesson in IM seems to be that you don't want unengaged people on your list. If you can't bring them over on the merits of who you are and what you are doing, then it is better not to worry about them at all.

Having said that, if you didn't abuse them in the past then your existing list is as good a place as any to start recruiting for your future projects.

Well, I certainly can't argue with any of that since I don't personally use any lists in my daily work, though I do utilize them for some of my clients. :-)

Thanks guys, appreciate the advice. If I'd like to re-engage them which email service would allow me to send bulk emails to these people?

Well, you can use mail merge and thunderbird.
I've used it before for email marketing, and it is free.
You can just search for instructions on how to set it up.

I'm in the exact boat as you, Emp. I have a large list and trying to figure out the best way to send a cold email blast. Unfortunately, this is against mainstream email providers' rules, so I'm trying to find a 'blackhat' bulk email sender. I'll ping you if I come across anything. Let me know if you find anything as well!

with a upload site, I think your ratio for another new dedicated service is really low

but it's good for another public service

I would first make sure that they are clean.. use a service like Datavalidation to make sure they are still active and responsive... only use the A+ list from that result...

Then I would use 1K at a time to cold target.. setup another campaign to dump your optins (your true optin list)... use a friendly Email Marketing service.. if you get a lot of abuse responses they will suspend your account ...
    Good luck...

You can try to monetize this list, but if the customers don't remember when did they give you their e-mails. A lot of spam complaints might occur

Definitely make sure that they're clean first otherwise you could get blacklisted.

I'd suggest sending to them w/ a some third part servers. Someone that has Free test sends, doesn't mind you uploading purchased lists, and someone you wouldn't be afraid to lose your account with.

Sending to cold traffic can be tough sometimes.

  • Hello Emp

It 'hard to work on cold contacts, especially if you've never done marketing education, you may first try clearing the list with an appropriate program, but you should know that if you report it as spam risks the suspension of your account.
