When Do You Get Sick Of Emails?

I know MMO people are probably on more lists than other niches so your experience may be a little skewed.

But in general, when do you get sick of emails? When they send something every day? Every other day? Something else?

(I'm trying to determine how often to send my list.)

When they're not interesting (... or rather, when I'm no longer interested in what they have to say).

I remember hearing Rich Schefren say that the biggest problem marketers have is satisfying the rabid demand of their customers for information. I think that's true.

When I'm into something -- initially I can't get enough. You couldn't email me enough, I'd read everything.

Then when I lose focus, move onto something different or discover someone else (... whose temporarily more interesting) I might stop reading those emails from the first person...

      This ^

Emails get annoying when they're boring and don't appeal to you. If I just got into fishing, and I join a 'how to fish' email list, I'm gonna want to learn as much as I can about fishing. As long as you email me valuable information on fishing I'll never get tired of your emails.

It depends on everyone's interest, it is better to have a targeted mailing list, at least you know that people are interested in your business or product. People usually get sick when they start to receive more than one email each day but you will find somebody who gets sick after 3 emails in a week too, guaranteed, so don't give too much weight to it.

When a big launch hits and I get 3-4 people using the exact same swipes from the JV page.

But other than that, as long as it's interesting, I don't mind getting mailed frequently.

I follow Vick Strezheus' recommendation: he does not send emails daily, in fact he sends one from time to time, but when he sends an email, he really sends something interesting. So, when I receive an email from him, I always open it because I know there is something useful to read. On the other hand, I receive from other "gurus" on a daily basis, but they normally send emails to promote their products or someone else's so I usually do not open them. Both cases happens just subconsciously, the mind get tired seeing daily emails so they are automatically ignored. That's why I use Vick's style, which is sending from time to time with excellent contents.

When it comes to sending to your list everyones different.

I've seen some successful marketers that send a few times everyday, while others send once in a while.

Most of the time I just get sick of emails if they're boring, present absolutely no value at all, or I get multiple emails a day that are just sell sell sell.

If someone sends to me everyday, doesn't give me some kind of idea who they are, doesn't send quality products, or they don't say anything about the product whatsover or say it will help me make $20,0000 by tomorrow then I automatically delete it.

This is rife in the IM space; getting constantly bombarded with:

"My friend X just released product/service XYZ and it's awesome.

      Check it out: www.productxyz.com"

This is just lazy marketing as there is no value for the reader whatsoever.

Reading email is a personal experience and I get "sick" when it becomes boring and over promotional and doesn't give good content or build the relationship.

And because many of us here will be on many IM lists I don't really like getting emailed every day but this is just personal preference.

People who just sell and sell and sell and NEVER offer a lot of real value.

Thats when I put my foot down

  • I like daily emails, but only from people who write from a place of confidence, inject real personality into their writing, and who ain't afraid of offending.

What I hate, are these watered down, diluted marketers who write from a place of timidity, or just write promotional emails all the time.

I never understood the whole, "I don't like daily emails" nonsense. Truth is, there are no empty inboxes. We all get daily emails. It's when one marketer gives no value (not to be confused with giving away free PDF's and whatnot) and has no intention of showing me the person behind the computer screen.

Boring, tame, lifeless and pedantic emails get deleted first.

Those who send daily drivel get a rep for "Crying wolf" and often get an unsubscribe from me.

Those who have sent some quality stuff, get much more lead-way on how often they can send out emails without objection. I understand the marketing strategy from both views: 1.) Only sending winners out periodically or 2.) Taking a shot numerous times throughout the week/month.
Still, I don't unsubscribe that often.

You know the interesting part is that I find myself just ignoring and deleting the emails I don't like instead of simply unsubscribing. Like some others mentioned before, the emails simply have to be interesting and provide some type of valuable information.

Otherwise they will be deleted pretty much automatically. I know some people like blasting a lot of emails on a daily basis but focusing on producing some content rich emails with great information even just 3 to 4 of them a week will be great.

It really does not make sense to rush blast emails just to get them out daily without putting more effort into the content that goes in them.
