Neat trick to prevent your emails from ending up in the spam folder.

Here is a neat trick that I use to prevent my emails going to the spam folder of my lists.

Obviously it results in higher open rates and more sales.

When someone signs up for your list.

In the welcome email you should welcome them and tell them again what they are going to receive from you via email.

Give them the benefits they will get from opening your emails.

Then tell them that they have to reply to your welcome email because you do not want them to lose out on all the goodies you are going to share with them.

If they reply to the email then your emails won't end up in their spam folder.

If enough people reply to your welcome emails then your email provider will see that as a good signal and send your emails to their inboxes. even works with Gmail.

Cheers

Jan

You should give them an INSTRUCTIONAL video on how to view only your emails.

    Nice tip Jan,
Getting them to reply seems like it would be a bigger barrier than most would be willing to do. I am assuming you are offering a lot of value with your first email. Are you mainly sending PLR or something else as well?

Great tip and so simple as well. It can certainly lead to higher conversions. Thank you.

Its is a good tip - though yes, getting a reply could be a tough barrier to cross, maybe whitelisting would be easier, but then you dont know if they did that or not.

I guess if your offer is good enough, then getting a reply would be easier.

Still as said, its an idea worth knowing at any rate :-)

I think a lot of people may have misunderstood Jan's OP. (of course there is also the remote possibility that I am the one who isn't understanding)

This isn't double opt-in per se, and it isn't an email with a follow up offer - AND they are still on your list even if they don't reply.

This is essentially a one click whitelisting of your email address with their mail provider.

I guess you could try to incentivize that click in some way, but Jan's point (IMHO) was that simply replying to your welcome email would essentially whitelist your email address in a very user-friendly way.

    edit...
You might also ask them for some feedback. Start building the relationship with your new contact by asking if they received your "freebie". Did they find your download page? Anything to get them to hit the reply button.

Exactly. Also if a few people reply then your send from email address gets white listed so you have better deliver rates to your whole list.

This is exactly why this forum is so useful. We start off with a post, and many experts give their own take on it from their own experience, and newer marketers get a free-ranging wide spectrum view of the subject and learn so much. Thank you all whatever your level of knowledge on here for making this a great place to learn.

    Genius!!!!!!!

I had a PDF I used to use as a lead generation magnet, but stopped using it when I switched to an e-course as a lead generation magnet.

Now I can put the PDF back into use by having subscribers email me for a copy. I can mention it on my "Thank You" page to look out for the "Welcome" email, and give them clear instructions on how to get the PDF.

        Sweet!!!!!

Just made the changes to my "thank you" page and "welcome" email.

Right now I'm getting a 57.6% open rate on my "welcome" emails, so hopefully that'll go up-Up-UP!

        Thanks again.

          Hey Jan,

Just wanted to give you an update.

So my open rates for my "Welcome" emails are now at 58.6%. A teenie-tiny hop, but I'll take it!

Also, my response rate is 25% for my welcome emails!!! Before it was almost non-existent (I would get someone emailing me every now and then to ask a question).

          You rock!!!

    This works great.

As well as offering them a pdf & setting up your gmail account to automatically reply to them once they message you so you don't even have to be there.

This is definitely a great way to get more engagement out of your list as well so they keep up opening up in the future.
