A few things I never understood about email marketing

I've come to learn quite a bit about email marketing recently, but there are a few things that I don't get,

One is, say if you are in the weight loss niche, and you're building up a list of women needing to lose weight, you only have a limited amount of products to promote and you only have a limited amount of information women looking to lose weight need to know. So how are you supposed to email them forever?

Are you supposed to keep mailing them forever? Because there's only so much people need to know and useful products they need to buy right?

So how does it work? Is each person on your list only supposed to last a certain amount of time?

You'll find that people will buy over and over again. There are constantly new products being released in most any niche, especially weight loss. Plus you can promote related niches: diet, workouts, equipment, recipes, clothing, mind set etc...

Just because they buy one diet book, doesn't mean they won't buy another. It makes them more likely actually to buy another.

After a few months of emails you could restart at beginning if in a smaller niche or continue to add emails and new products to promote.

List's will burn out over time. Depends on a lot of factors from niche, frequency, products. If you continue to bring in new leads, you'll be more than fine!

    Hope that helps!

        That's exactly what he means!

And if it doesn't work the second time around, when you finish start over again...

Everybody's 'take up' rate is completely different. Plus, situations and circumstances change. What didn't apply the first time around may be EXACTLY what they're looking for the second, third, fourth, fifth... time around.

          I'm starting to understand now.

So just to clear things up, say if i wrote up 3 months worth of emails, a mix of pure helpful information and information mixed with product promotion, I can just basically repeat that sequence once 3 months is over?

Yes, you can certainly do that. You'll know when you see open rates drop after time what your lifetime average of engagement is for subscribers.

You need to create a sales funnel. Separate the prospects from buyers and also separate the buyers into multiple categories.

You also need to actually help the people that you have in your list, help them meet their goals. Create some emotions, make stories, make them understand that you have been in their skin, actually make them think you have been even worse.

Then stand up like superman, showing how you overcame all of that and how you managed to get to where you are today

Eventually, within in your Funnel you can start Cross Selling. For instance, say you have a 500lb woman who loses 300 lbs and gains self confidence.

Well, don't you think she could be a prospect for a Dating Product to meet new people?

Great point Robert! You can tie outside niches into your initial list and make it relevant for your subscribers.

I believe if someone is worried about how much information there is to share and needs to be known about something in weight loss, they don't know the market or their needs or the topic.

There are literally hundreds or thousands of tips, ideas, strategies, articles, quotes, rules, etc. related to weight loss just waiting for someone to share.

This is where the passion versus profit problem rears its ugly head. Weight loss for women may be profitable so people jump in but they have no clue about how it all works and so wind up not succeeding.

Something else- Once she loses the weight, You can work on how she looks. Exercises, makeup, and clothing?
Not an expert, but women who want to lure a partner will spend money for it!

Also diet- proper food, weight watchers, heck gardening for good food?

The possibilities are endless- shoes, clothes, etc.?
Like I said- not an expert, just trying to give some ideas.

That's a good idea and everything, but how exactly would you know who on your list actually has successfully lost weight so you can sell them makeup, clothing etc?

One idea is to promote stuff that people need to buy more than once, like weight loss supplements for instance.

One word of warning though, make sure to promote stuff that really works so you don't burn the relationship down the drain by making them feel that you tricked them into buying just to make a quick buck.

But good "recommendations" tend to sell over and over :-)

I just built an 11k list in the weight loss/diet niche and have been wondering the same things.

What I thought about doing was closely following Mike Geary's list. He's a super affiliate in that field so I'm planning on promoting the same products as him and using the same email frequency as him.

I'm just assuming that what he sends out is working because of how successful he's been.

    Could be a misfire though.

I'm also emailing my list blog posts that are losing weight. Giving them great free info tied in with promoting products. This can be as simple as visiting other sites, taking their info and then just referencing the original source.

Hopefully I can profit from this list =) and hopefully you find success as well!
