They're all goal based - goal is a conversion.

    Some are 3 emails long.

Others as many as 12 emails long.

Length usually corresponds to how much money the thing I'm trying to sell costs.

And, there are normally many series I send to the same list. So, like a 3 email series for one product, followed by a 6 email series for another product ... each series for ONE GOAL.

I send a message everyday for the first three days and then skip a day, if I haven't broken-even on my email acquisition costs, then I add another message for the following day, then I skip a day. Again if I haven't broken even, then I add another message or maybe 2 for the next or next 2 days. It's all about watching your stats, as they will tell you if you should keep adding messages or change the offer and how aggressive you can be.. Obviously you want to have enough people in the list to make it statistically significant.

I don't plan per se, but I do write entire series which includes, second mail to non-opens, main to non-clickers etc before I blast out my first email

I do a series of automated conversations with a live lead.

After the lead is "milked" they will see the date related AR for the product they purchase. That AR is frequent at first and grows lighter.

Anyone think it's important for your actual newsletters to always be on the same time schedule? (Example chubbyshorts always sends an email out on Friday to celebrate the upcoming weekend)

    To be honest...

You shouldn't fully automate until once you know it's pulling in good Open Rates and CTR's. By all means automate the welcome email and even a mini series. But your best bet would be to broadcast your emails, constantly testing and adapting, then... place it as an auto-responder.

Too many people download a DFY auto-responder series and I'd assume none even take the time to test if those emails are even worth sending in the first place. Just plug and play... everyone's funnel is different, so what you have in place, is going to be completely different from someone else.

Spend the time testing and tracking results people. ;-)

I would set up a 3 email follow up series. Then schedule 3-5 broadcasts per week every week. When you start you want to know how every email that you create performs. You can automate later but when starting out take the long route and manually schedule broadcasts each week.

I haven't been doing this for a long time yet but some things I have read says it depends on the market your in, if you are only selling one thing then it would be a short series but if you have quite a few related things your selling then depending on how many that may be it could be up to 3 months. I also read if you don't want to see the people on your list drop off you need to keep them engaged that way if you come up with something to sell them along the lines of what you were promoting in the first place they may buy rather then saying to themselves ,,,this guy hasn't went me anything in months I will just click it to the trash.
