    Crеаtе аn еngаgіng ѕubjесt lіnе
Thе subject lіnе is thе first thіng a сuѕtоmеr sees оn аnу еmаіl. If you hаvеn’t tested аnd орtіmіzеd yours, уоu’rе lеаvіng mоnеу оn the tаblе. A/B testing іѕn’t just fоr wеbѕіtеѕ аnd lаndіng раgеѕ -- it’s essential fоr еmаіl mаrkеtіng аѕ wеll. Aіm for a casual аnd реrѕоnаl opening lіnе, and tеѕt, tеѕt, tеѕt.

Wow, 0.4% open rate. With such low open rate the question is not if your email is good or not.

Assuming that your email deliverability is standard (something you might want to look into).

Then the question is how did you get those almost thousand uninterested people into your list. Because they are clearly not your target audience.

Where did you get this List or how did you develop it ?

Just really alarming results. Very alarming to be quite honest.

At first I was thinking 4% then I looked again and it was close to 1,000 not a 100. So.4%

Also, check deliverability and your ESP to see if problems like sending to spam folders.

But really research this and get a firm understanding of what is going on or else you will keep spinning your wheels.

Definitely look at your deliverability rate. In fact, I'd suggest cleaning your email list. Deliverability can be hindered by a dirty list filled with spam traps and bad email addresses. Ensure you clean your list regularly to optimize your deliverability rate; a poor deliverability rate can be the reason behind your open rate being low because your emails aren't making it to the inbox. I'd also revisit your email - do you use 'spammy' words? Is there an unequal ratio of images and text? Is your subject line attention-grabbing?

Give people an incentive to opt in, make it clear that they would receive the gift (free ebook or whatever) via email so they won't give you a fake email and they'll be forced to open your email

How should I clean the list . . . . Manually ? Or there is some more efficient way

There are services such as BriteVerify that can clean your list. Depending on your size, manually cleaning your list may be too time consuming.

Some, but not all, email service providers have a cleaning tool built-in to their software. I'd suggest asking your ESP before using a 3rd party service.

    Hey,
Keeping the technical part aside, I think you need to work on 'subject' of your emails. It should grab the user's attention and make the user feel that this mail was for him/her only.

Coming to technical part, I suggest you to check your 'spam score' for the respective mails. They might be going to spam folder.

Regarding that, may I ask which autoresponder you are using?
