Email Records Gathering

Hi there,

I have a few questions for you guys.

Please use the base assumption that im NOT in the IM/MMO niche.
Im selling physical products via e-commerce.

1. How much, in my type of niches, does it cost you to gather 1 email address?
- Im currently gathering emails via adwords and facebook ads, with CTR of 9%, and a nice squeeze page that convert at 21%.
-This process cost me $1 per email record. - is it high? is it low? also, in this way its working really slow for me.. i need a faster solution for higher targeted traffic...

2. If you had $1000 that you can send now for your email gathering, how will you do it? how many emails will you be able to collect?
- Im asking it as someone offered me to go and look into buying email lists, the price per email is about $0.08, it suppose not to be the regular BS out there, but quality data. - what is your opinion about it? is there a better way to use this $1000?

thank you
Matan

Unless you just got lucky and walked into a good deal, it's probably over priced.

Did you negotiate the price or that's the price they gave you? Unless it's a big company, you can usually get data for a much better price than the initial ask.

Who is selling it? Is it a data broker, just some guy who has data, etc...?

    What makes it "Quality Data"?

What do you know about it?

Why do you think it is a good match for what you are selling?

I would ask for a free sample to see what your actually getting.

If you do decide to buy, don't just spend $1000! Tell them you want to buy a small random sample to test.

I've been buying data for 15 years, so I have a bit of experience!

      Hi Diablo

That the price they gave me, didn't try to negotiate, what is a good price per record?

Yes, it via a data broker.

I think its a good match for what im selling, i hope so at least, i count it as quality not because any specific issue but because that what i been told. i don't have any knowledge what so ever about the origin, but i spoke with the broker over the phone and he sounds a professional (i talked with many other also that didn't sound so..) - but you know its only a feeling..

What is a good sample count? what are good result from a sample data?

If you don't mind me asking, what is the niche you are buying data for?

      thanks

Any idea how big the company is?

I generate leads, so I have no experience buying data to sell a product. Plus I have no clue what your product is or how much it sells for. I also know nothing about the data. So anything I say, I could be out in left field with a hockey stick.

You won't truly know what is a good price until you test it. However, .08 to me is high. I have always paid way less than .08 for what I think you are buying.

I personally would never buy any data with out knowing the origin, unless it doesn't matter and in which case there's probably some other targeting attribute to it and I'm getting it for a good price.

How much to buy for a test...really comes down to how much are you willing to risk?

If I never worked with the source before and I feel comfortable with what I know about the data and the price, I will usually buy like 20% as a test or a few hundred dollars, which ever is cheaper. If I have worked with the source before, I might spend a little more, but I always test, no matter what!!!

All I care about is how long does it take me to break-even. Ideally, I want to break-even with in 7 days. If I do that, I made a good deal. Of course that doesn't always happen. If it starts to take more than 30 days, I get annoyed!

But the key is that you tested it and you now have a much better idea what it is worth and how much it's worth spending to buy more of it.

As I mentioned, I generate leads. So it's typically easier for me to make a decision that it's targeted to what I want to do. I can look at the site the data comes from and immediately tell it it looks like a good match. I also always get a free sample to see that the data matches the site. I tend to deal with leads that have mass appeal, so that is also going to help VS something niche. I also favor real-time or same day data, as I feel more comfortable that it's legit. Not that someone couldn't forge the time stamps in either case.

Also, don't mail the whole list in one shot. Start small and test to see that it's not some pile of dog crap. Above when I talk about breaking-even in 7 days, that's after my initial first send. Also I'm not just mailing it once during that time.

Any, hopefully I gave you something to take away.

Im sorry but im a bit confused, you are saying that you don't buy data, but 2 paragraphs later you are buying?

How it possible same day data? we are talking about email address.. sign up date?

Maybe i will try to explain better what i want to accomplish, i would like to get email data, of people that are interested in the same products as i have, and email them to my discount or something like that..

do you have any recommendation on a list broker / company that you can send me the info in a PM?

          thank you!

I don't buy data to sell products, I buy data to generate leads from it...I get paid per lead generated.

Same day...I get the data the same day as it was created.

I follow what you want to do, but as I said, I've always bought data to generate leads. I have no recommendations.

hmm, so you are buying data, for example people that need insurance and send them to a lead capture page? - getting paid per lead like that?

Yes, I send them to a cpa/lead generation offer.

Been doing it for 15 years now.

With leads there's no credit card required, so typically the conversion rate is much better than selling product/service. In the end, I'm just monetizing data using leads, as they offer the past of least resistance. Simple concept, but it's quite a bit more involved than meets the eye.
