I was facing the question when I started my blogging career - How to build the email list? This is what I observed after working on my own website that fetched descent amount of traffic.

      • Firstly if your traffic is huge then probability of people signing up for your newsletter increases. Hence just think 1 out of 200 visitors will sign up for your newsletter for the sake of an argument.
      • If your website offers interesting content then probability of newsletter sign ups increase. Mine was based on fashion which is a popular topic so many people signed up.
      • You need to have popups prompting people to sign up for your newsletter. You may use plugins for that if you own a wordpress site.
      • You can offer some give away in exchange of an email - like a free eBook or a free report or so.
...And yes...it is illegal to buy email database for sure!

Hope I managed to answer! All the best !

If you are going through a reputible company like datahq then its legal as these people are aware that their details are going to be resold for commercial purpose.

If you are using some other source ie not a broker then you may want to question where they got the data from.

In either case I wouldn't be keen to invest this way as you don't know how good or clean the data is.

If you do go ahead try asking for a smaller amount of data first to test with and ask for their hotlist.

It would be a better idea to run facebook ads targeting these people and get them to sign up for your list in return for a free report or webinar.

I'd suggest researching the UK legislations around using cold data.

In North America, there are legislations in place (CAN-SPAM and CASL) - so it's possible there are similar laws in the UK.

If you have any questions about what comes next after finding a data provider - feel free to reach out as I work for a company that specializes in sending to cold data.

    Good luck!

I believe it is not. A recipient of an email must have opt-in to receive the email. Buying email database per se may not be prohibited but sending unsolicited email is not allowed. The sender of unsolicited email is liable to pay a huge fine as well as civilly liable for any resulting damages caused by the sent unsolicited email. It would be useless to buy an email data base when you can not use it to send an email marketing campaign. Buying Email data base per se I believe is not illegal.

    Thanks all.

I was reading a Gov blogs that buying a database is illegal but had an idea that if we brought a database and added an un-subscribe link and mentioned on the newsletters that we got your email address from your web site.

    Any advice on this please?

    Regards

You'll have to have an unsubscribe link regardless.

Do you have a link to the blog? I think you are taking it out of context. I've clients who are FTSE 100 companies who buy data every month both b2c and b2b. Again to repeat myself it's about buying from a reputible company who get their leads in a legal manner.

Check with who you are buying the leads from to see where they get them from, what the opt in/out process is, who is registered with regards the dpa act.

If you are unsure seek legal advise.

Yes, as has been stated. It is not illegal to buy an email list but I would ask what is your purpose of the list? Because if you are trying to make long term money you should build it from scratch.

Feel free to reach out to me if you need any help with building a list.

Yes it is legal. You can either rent a database which you can then only use once, or you can buy one and do whatever you want with it.

There's 2 ways to really build your email list..

    Forum marketing

    Solo ads

Those are the 2 best ways in my opinion.

I love both of them very much! Just for solo ads make sure you find a good trustworthy seller & stick with them!!

    Hope that helps
