How do I build my list?

Hey Warriors,

I am beyond frustrated today. I figure we all have those days, but I need some ideas on how to move forward.

I am struggling to build a list of people in my niche (Health and Nutrition). I have awesome products, but no one to market to. I have tried building squeeze pages, but I can't get traffic to my squeeze pages either. I need to build an audience, but I can't seem to get any traction on Facebook.

I know it takes time, and there is no easy solution, but what ideas do you have for me? I'm open to trying anything that works. I have to get my own list going because buying leads is not cost effective at all, but right now that's all I have because I can't generate my own leads.

Ideas?

    Hey Cody,

It sounds like you are experiencing a very common problem among online business owners and I would like to help!

First of all, when it comes to online marketing, building a list is great, but you of course need the traffic first. Once you have the traffic, those squeeze pages, popups, exit intent popups, freebie offers, etc. will start working on their own to build your list.

To get traffic, I personally try and employ EVERY single idea I can think of. 1 idea will generate 1000 new visitors a day, another will generate 2/day and another will generate 30/day...etc. To build a successful online business, you must employ a wide variety of traffic building techniques.

Because there are so many ways to do this, I always make an Excel sheet and have it readily available so that every single time a new idea pops in my head or I read/see something on YouTube, I write it down. Right now, for my newest business that will be launching in a month, I have a list of over 80 different marketing strategies I will work on to grow traffic.

I can suggest some traffic building strategies, but I would highly recommend researching each in great detail so you can properly employ them.

    Basic Traffic Building Strategies:
    -SEO (search engine optimization)
    -Post blog articles
-Create and post onto Facebook, Twitter and Google + (you can post every time you create a new blog article)
-Offer to write articles for other sites and in return, they will let you have a link or two within the article.
-Find a Google Adwords and Yahoo Ads coupon for free online and launch a few campaigns.
-Find affiliates to promote your product/service in exchange for a commission.
-Explore offering your product/service inside JVZoo or ClickBank
-Review competitors on alexa.com and see where their traffic is coming from. Perhaps you can mimic that.
-Post a job on upwork and see if anyone can suggest good traffic building techniques.

Without knowing specifically what you are offering, I cannot be too creative. The point is, there are an unlimited number of ways to build traffic and your email list. When I have a brain block, I go on YouTube and start searching around...you will find many videos of people offering their tips and strategies.

    I hope this helps!

      Hi codyraymiller,

I completely agree with gurupreneur. In addition to his ideas, I would like to suggest some more techniques regarding listing of people in your niche. One of the best techniques available today to enhance your business through online is with business listing directories.
These are the best resources available to list out your business(either products or services)based on the following features:
      Name of the Business
      Region of the Business
      Nature of the Products
      Effective SEO strategy
Maintaining User Friendly Website and Updating Frequently.
Hope you will consider my ideas and implement for maintaining your listing effectively.

My suggestion is try an email scraper to collect the email address of your target audience and it brings you a list with the details such as email address, name, location and much more.

    Hey Cody,

Have you tried the easiest way? Getting someone who has a list in that niche andgetting them to run solos for you? If you have no idea what do to or how to get started, this is what you should do. Get someone who has the list you want, to send a solo to them and you should make a short freebie book or report or something to give people when they opt in.

Someone else above said to try a bunch of different ways and they will each bring a lot of a little people to the site. I'd say don't do that. Pick 1 or 2 good methods and do those until you see results or or until they prove to be pointless. Then move on to another method or ramp up whats working.

    Hope that helps!

I know Bing Ads have giving people some satisfactory results at reasonable prices. It wouldn't hurt to do some testing and run some PPC there

    Hi,
The best thing for you to do is group the users in small categories so as to help personalize the newsletters you send. Through their emails, you can find their social media account profile and try to figure out the likes and dislikes. Based on the information at hand, you will divide the potential clients. In so doing, it helps widen the target area and also makes it easier for the receiver to reply since they will have a look at the best products you offer. You can as well group them based on the shopping habits in terms of frequency...

I agree about PPC, solo ads, and forums..

But you say you have "awesome products" - why not let others (affiliates) market them for you? They already have existing lists.. And then you will slowly build a list of BUYERS (ooooooh!).

You want use compiled data vs directory data...Do you need the emails or just the contact name and title...There are certain providers I would recommend depending on the type of information you need...Are you needing to email or call the prospects?

    Hi cody,
Firstly i believe you have your own website,
I would recommend to add webform on the side bar
Also a light box pop up, create an ebook with 5 tips to great health or something like this that will help people,

Now traffic time, a squeeze page i find great at solo ad or banner ads, or paid traffic

Now start blog hopping and blog commenting for free traffic

This is where you go on to people website in you niche with high traffic who also have place to comment on their blogs and site.

And be a normal person and startcommunicating, give great tips and value

Over time you will see people like your post and will click on to your website and will eventually optin

    Good luck my friend

Instead of buying leads you can

Buy Facebook ads to increase your page likes
When you have few thousand likes you can contact other page owners who are in same niche as you are and exchange shootouts.
Then create a niche blog and write interesting content
Share posts on your FB page.
Capture the leads by adding an pop up opt-in box on your blog

Try this method it worked for me.

you should do some research and no about the competitors method then you will get some ideas in that niche. you should also write some quality content concerning what you deal with and post it in your website and social media such as Facebook. this might attract people who want to learn more into your website and probably do some buying. Be patient and wait for results. all the best

I think you don't just need ideas...you need a step by step guide.

I am sure even if we give you a bunch of ideas, u will still be lost.

How do I know that? Because ideas are everywhere.

Do a quick search on WF and there are ton of traffic generation ideas, but I bet you will be drown in information overload.

The solution? Find a system that work and suits your working style and work on it until you get at least 100 visitors a day.

For eg. I am building my list in the IM niche with solo ads and funnel clicks (cheaper)... I also tested other paid traffic methods such as 7Search and Clixsense and will try Bing Ads soon.

Once I identify one source that brings in the dough, I will scale it.

Don't waste time on SEOs or content marketing or social media marketing if you are not able or won't write.

Get traffic directly with paid traffic source...you will build your list faster.

Just so u know, identifying traffic source is just one part of the puzzle.

Learn about your sales funnel so that you make back at least your ad costs.

Learn about email copywriting so that every email u write turn words into cash.....

But first....start with 1 paid traffic source...and track your results.

  • Hi Cody, All above information you received is great. keeping it niche, personalised and going where you will find your kinda audience is the mantra. will save a lot of efforts, energy and will keep you boosted. Social media is great way if used a particular manner suiting you. This was recommended to me by my email marketing vendor Ariticmail. Our social media posts reach far and wide but often miss a 'call to Action'. While you create great posts, add a quick "sign up" landing to page where they just have to add name and email makes very easy for them. Vice versa adding a FB/Twitter "Like" button at end of all emails you send ensures your capture their goodwill at that moment. It is all a viscious circle more likes, more traffic . Plus email marketing apps do give options to import more lists, mine offers mysql database support

  • For contacts you can do The following things
    1. SEO
    2. Social Media
    3. Paid marketing like google adwords and Bing Ads
    4. creating profiles in Linkedin where you can join in related groups and can find contacts. linkedin is the best source for getting professional contacts
    5. posting articles
    6. writing blogs
    7. press releases about companys latest events or updates about the services
if you have a team then ask them to search manually in search engines like google and bing to find the targeted people or location etc for the contacts this takes so much time but results will be very good just try it once

You need to remember these points while growing your email lists:

1.You need to work on your email content so that people stay connected and subscribed to email lists.

2.Ask your friends and relatives to share or forward your emails to their friends so that you receive subscribes to email lists from them.

3.Conduct promotions of your product on social media channels like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn.

4.You can also run paid ad campaigns.

5.Arrange offline events to collect email addresses.

    Hey there!

It's a good thing you came here!

You always want to direct traffic to your squeeze page.. A squeeze page to collect an email address is as important as collecting an address for mail back 50 years ago. IT IS VITAL!

With that being said, there are a ton of ways to market your squeeze page.

My personal 2 favorite are: Solo Ads & Forum Marketing

Solo Ads - Is paying someone who already has a giant email list in your niche to run an ad for you and give you the amount of clicks you ordered (usually around $0.50-$1/per click). And they run an ad to their email list to get you that amount of traffic and a GREAT seller has a high converting & responsive list.

You can go on Google and lookup solo ad providers for your niche or go on Facebook and there's a page called "Solo Ad testimonials" that you can reach out to providers on there too or you can get recommendations from other people in your niche (like go on a health forum and ask for recommendations).

Forum Marketing - Is where you go on forums related to your niche and add a thing called a signature (you can see it below this post) where it allows you to link back to your website at the bottom of your post.

You have to genuinely help these people out and really solve their problems and when you do they might be interested in more of what you have to offer so they click the link below your post and signup for your email list I get anywhere from 10-20/subscribers a day with this method & it's not bad considering it's free

Something you might be interested in is a technique that my mentor showed me a while back and that is buying your way up to 1,000 subscribers which with the right seller can be done in 1-2 big orders and then once you have your list you can actually go over to a website called Safe-Swaps where you can swap ads with someone who has roughly the same list size as you and he'll promote you to his list and you'll promote him to yours.

That technique is optional, but your best and easiest/fastest way to go about building your list is to pay for traffic! Pay to get yourself seen. If you're not seen no one is going to join. Even my list which has over 8,000 people (not big, but not bad) still doesn't gain anymore subscribers unless if I'm out marketing it. So the best way is to PAY for traffic because if you pay $4/subscriber in the long run he'll probably make you 10x that amount so keep that in mind.

    Hope this helped

    Take care, Adam

    Hi,
all is said but to me, I think social media marketing, article marketing and forum networking is still the best couple with great SEO content

    How?
I discover a method that can get your website a or few thousands visitors daily, thousands of twitter followers daily, thousands of facebook fan page like and you get your post share or retweet thousands of time daily.

imagine what this could do to your traffic problem? IM if you want to know

I am afraid there is no idea that can work, 0.03% response rate sucks! the truth is there is no short cut, no easy way!

I am not discouraging you, I know how it feels like to get nothing after hours, days, months of effort!

We all think Direct Marketing through email is easy money but when we get into it, we realize that reality is way too different!

There is one way, yes only one way you can fix it, that is achieving your Readers Loyalty!

but that is not a short term process, sadly you have to work on it for at least one year through your blog!

And when I mean work, that means quality work in terms of SEO, Content, Relationship Marketing, Influencer Marketing=Readers Loyalty, you have to master these five areas!

    There is no shortcut Mate!
