Using just email field in sign-up forms, how it works?

Hi Warriors,
I have a question about asking just for Email address in sign-up forms, squeeze pages...
I noticed most of marketers in their websites using forms with just one single field: email.
My question is, How it works?? I mean, after a subscriber gives you his email address, in the following messages, won't you need his name, at least just for building a kind of relation with him? All your future messages and discussion will be with: "dear subscriber"? or "hi friend"?
Sorry to be such a noob,
Thanks everybody.

this is a easy answer for you. it usually converts better with just the email thats why alot of email marketers do that. in other words you will receive an increase in subscribers. also depending on what your promoting in some cases you dont even need the persons name because once they buy your product you will know. but do what is best for you and your brand as it varies depending on what you are promoting. hope this helps.

I don't say "hi subscriber", or "dear friend", I just pretend like I'm talking one on one, face to face with my subscriber.

(Just go straight into the conversation, without addressing the end user by name or alias).

My end users love it, because I speak to them directly, no name required. (As evidenced that many of my end users have been on my list for years).

this is a simple response for you. it for the most part changes over better with simply the email thats why alot of email advertisers do that. as such you will get an increment in supporters. additionally relying upon what you're advancing now and again you dont even need the persons name in light of the fact that once they purchase your item you will know. yet, do what is best for you and your image as it shifts relying upon what you are advancing. trust this makes a difference.

The best way to know is test.
If you give them irresistible gift for free in exchange of email and/or they know you will give them value, then your optin rate could be very good even if you ask for their name and email.

If your main goal is to get highest optin rate possible, than you should collect only emails.

you have to test it out on your own then... instead of hi subscibers... why dont u start hey... is me... your_name... then follow by the content that you wana give away...

another thing is that ... try to look on how other email marketers did...by opt in to their pages... and read on how they deliver the message...

Thanks alvincampbell, I prefer more subscribers than collecting names with less optin rate. I'm working in a high competitive niche, (making money online). So it'll be more effective to try to collect more subscribers. Thanks.

So, it's important to build a good brand first, create awesome content and give value first then trust will come depending on how valuable what are you giving to subscribers, right? thank you Asadullah72

The most important thing first is giving value, But as i've mentioned above, in a very competitive niche, the highest optin rate is an opportunity.. thank you Arowan.

Some email services also allow you to use progressive forms for your subscribers. So the first time you fill out a form it might just ask for an email. The second it might just ask for a name. Third company etc.

As alvincampbell said, one field usually converts better.

Thanks alanorouke, it's also a good idea to use progressive form, I don't know if it's possible with Mailchimp?

  • Yup. just an email address doesnt tell you how to address them. to make them feel individually addressed we need their name, plus people dont have issues sharing name and email, anything more that that maybe an issue. Also getting names in database helps in sorting, avoiding duplicates. :-)

Yes, most marketers are just collecting emails of people but other top marketers collect a name too.

I think that it is better to get people's name too.

I rarely had this issue and this can happen in every 50 subscribers that you get.

I like to focus on people who give their real email and name and then you get to build a real relationship with them.
