I'm new to email marketing and am hoping to get some feedback on a question I have regarding opt-ins.
If someone gives me their email address in exchange for a lead magnet such as a free ebook etc. is it necessary to inform them that they are subscribing to a list? Obviously this is not the same as when someone signs up to receive a monthly newsletter or whatever.

I have built many lists and used lead magnets like you say, but I've never informed them in any way. I use Aweber, and I build my lists and forms there and then implement them into my landing page or squeeze page. If they choose to take the lead magnet for letting me have their email, then that's it! The sign up will be recorded in Aweber with IP and time, so there shouldn't be an issue with that. You will always get people that thinks this is spamming though, but they usually unsubscribe immediately or send you an email telling you to delete them. No worries...

Thanks, that's good to know. What about advertising on Facebook? Can you send traffic from there directly to a squeeze page or is it better to send them to a post on your website and capture emails using a popup or content upgrade? I've had my Facebook account suspended before so I don't want to take any risks with it again.
