Personally, I started out with Aweber and still continue to use it till this day. When I searched around looking for what was available on the market and comparing, it became seemingly clear to me that Aweber and Getresponse were the two leaders for our purposes(internet marketing) - quite user friendly for the newbie and cost friendly.

Between the two, if deliverability is more important to you, then Aweber is the way you want to go. If stats and metrics are your thing, then perhaps Getresponse might have a little bit of an edge. That's just the surface though... do a google search and I'm sure you'll find multiple articles comparing the two. Several of the others mentioned in the thread like Mailchimp and Sendlane etc are good as well.

If you're more advanced and want more out of your autoresponder, then Infusionsoft is something you'd want to look at... not going to be user friendly though if you're just starting out. Because you're asking the question, I'm inclined to think you're more on the newbie side of the spectrum than the advanced end so I'd stick with Aweber or Getresponse. I believe they both have free trials for the first 30 days or so.

On top of that, Aweber and Getresponse seem to be what most people use so if you ever have any issues, you won't be short of people who can help you outside of customer support for both autoresponders.

What you may want to look for in a good email marketing tool is that it should have templates with appealing designs, easy personalization, scoring, tagging, advanced reporting, auto-responding, real-time alerts, Email A/B testing, tracking and then some more. If it is simply Email marketing that you are focused on, AWeber, MailChimp, Constant Contact are some of the leading ones available. However, since my workplace uses complete Marketing & Sales Automation including CRM, we like the Email marketing features available to us via Agile CRM. You may want to test it out as well.

It quite depends on lot of things.

If you need a sophisticated one with Marketing Campaign Automation then go with InfusionSoft.

Basically it's a CRM. Also Ontraport, Microsoft Dynamics is there but are less used IMers.

If you need simpler things then Aweber, MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc. are ones.

Btw, you can get the same automation stuff that InfusionSoft gives using Aweber + AWPro for a very less price.

Aweber is very good, but personally my favorite and getresponse, price quality is really good.
But in my opinion, more important than autosponder are the steps to get and keep your email list:
    They offer a discount.
    original content.
Removing subscription, it shows the user that may unsubscribe easily.
offered support, this is one of the most important steps in my opinion.
personal link, offer the opportunity to your inscribed a small section where to post their links with their product, so the customer will feel appreciated.

Be cautious of those offering interspire and powermta as they are often using cracks of the programs.

For most anyone devolpping an opt-in list an autoresponder is going to work fine. However, you need to check their AUP and make sure that what you are promoting is allowed, as some have many restrictions. Also take into consider if they allow single opt-in, as some don't. Lastly, most all offer a free trial of some sort. So build yourself a seed list or get from a company that provides them and test to see how their deliverability is...don't just assume that your in-boxing.

Aweber, Get Response and Mailchimp are the most famous platforms about email marketing. Each email marketing services has their own pricing plans you can choose one of these according to your demand as well as your budget. But if you don't have money to spend on email marketing then you must join Mailchimp because it is free to 2000 subscribers. But when your list exceed the limit of two thousand then you'll have to pay for that.

I've use ALOT of them. And for me nothing beats the value of GetResponse.

Aweber is similar to getresponse BUT they do cost a bit more.

Mailchimp is great as a free option but you have NO bells & whistles which i find very frustrating & limiting.

Either way man stay away from 1 time payment desktop or even cloud based type softwares. The code has issues. Or they update & you have to pay again. Or they move onto antoher project & you'll start having emailing issues. The software developers update their version & yours becomes obsolete.

Stick to an autoresponder service. AGain i recommend Getresponse. If you need help with getting started PM me I have a free 5 day course so you can learn & start emailing properly.

Do not miss the best email marketing tools as follows:
    - Mail Chimp
    - Get Response

The three autoresponder services recommended are the following:
iContact: This can be a good choice for a beginner looking for ease of use. But the pricing structure isn't competitive for larger lists.
Get Response: Considered as one of the best choices. You don't need to use a credit card to get a trial account for 30 days. It is an excellent choice when you are just starting out.
AWeber: This could also be a good choice for beginners looking for ease of use, easy and seamless integration with other popular sites.
Click Tracking: It's interesting to know how many of your subscribers are actually clicking the link in your email. The gauge that measure "click through rate" - is better, to track unique clicks than raw ones.

    I have
1 - self hosted mail system - not advanced - only simple sending mail and tracking
2 - getresponse - the best with a lot of advanced features
3 - aweber - good but not with all features of getrsponse
4 - mail chimp (free plan - up to 2000) - good but the 2 above it better

If you are looking to get the best deliverability, use Aweber. The most successful internet marketers I know use it and I've tried a few others (Get Response and Mail Chimp) and the deliverability wasn't as good.

Well, it's not one of the best email marketing tools, but it does help you figure out why your emails aren't getting reliably delivered, which is the first point of failure of any email marketing campaign.

I just shot a brief video about using it.

I'm using Aweber in the example, but it works for any email service provider (ESP).

I used Aweber years ago. I was 100% satisfied with it. I tried out Getresponse now. It's also very good solution for E-mail marketing. Getresponse offers business automation, landing page templates as well.
Both provider is a good choice.

Look, if you are a first-time user or you are still learning how newsletters work, I think MailChimp can be the best email marketing tool for you! Here are some other most popular tools: Aweber, Getresponse, Infusionsoft.

You seem to have earned a lot of answers to this question. Therefore, I would like to recommend only one email marketing tool from my experience.
I will gladly recommend you to opt for hybrid email marketing solution which is comparatively a new concept. One such tool that is present in the market is EasySendy Pro. It is a front end hybrid email marketing solution that has been specially designed to send bulk emails. Inside Pro, there are many existing SMTP servers. You will have to choose an SMTP server as per your choice from the given option and create an account with it. Consequently, you will also have to set up an account with EasySendy Pro. Once done with the steps, integrate both the software tools and start sending your emails.
Being infused with the technology of micro-deliverability of email, Pro ensures that your emails land in the subscriber's inbox thereby promoting email open rate and click through rate. This, in turn, will also increase the flow of ROI.
Apart from that, Pro is a highly pocket-friendly email marketing solution whereby you'll be able to optimize your email marketing budget as per your business needs and pocket size.

I have used virtually ALL of the services mentioned above and have left them for one simple reason. Open rates!

When using these services the email says coming from, yourname @your domain via the services name and their domain.

To get the email to read ONLY coming from yourname and domain you need to change the SPF and DKIM records.

Once we did that open rates tripled! So far I have found on 3 services that will allow that. Convertkit, Feedblitz, and Active Campaign.

***UPDATE*** We have chosen Active Campaign as our provider. AC has most of the features that Infusionsoft has but a MUCH easier learning curve AND...half the price!

Most of the "well known" providers do not offer that. When we had get response our open rates were 10% and LESS! Not acceptable!

Of course, if you are spamming people then you probably don't want to use your domain and would rather use theirs! At that point they will shut you down anyway.

MailChimp is the best, You can send 12,000 emails up to 2,000 subscribers per month absolutely free through Mailchimp.
Get response, awever, constant contact also good.

But, if you want to send lot of emails I suggest you, manage a personal email server like interspire or amazon SES.

    ACTIVECAMPAIGN and LEADPAGES

They are surely the best. They provide automations, you can send different mails etc depending on leads' actions, and with Leadpages you can build beautiful opt in pages, with no worry of the flow of traffice, since they provide unlimited bandwith and traffic income.

    So rely on these two.

    Pros
GetResponse's pricing is very affordable. Their platform is easy to use, and importing your lists takes seconds.

    Cons
Firstly, their form designer is below average. While it does the job, I always find myself spending longer than I'd like customising forms in their not-so-intuitive form builder section.
