Best way to keep my list clean?

I have recently sent 2 sets of solo ads to the same offer and funnel. Right now I have about 600 subscribers. I sent out one broadcast to that list containing 1 particular offer. Somehow I had 37 more optins and 1 complaint. Is that typical? For people to subscribe and then complain about spam. Wouldn't they just unsubscribe. I just don't want to get banned from my email service for things like that. My question is. How would you go about keeping your lists updated and scrubbed with only people interested in the types of offers that they subscribed to in the first place.

    hi,

you need to track all hard bounce, spam complaints and process/filter these from your list to keep it clean and meaningful.

I would do 2 quick things...

make sure really targeted traffic is being sent to you versus spam/untargeted traffic being thrown at you and also make sure your landing page or offer or optin is specific to who needs it or your target market. Like optin offer and emails match becase may be too general or mis match message if getting optins and then them unsubscribing or complaining right away.

Ok. thank you. Would you send a broadcast to all of them asking to unsubscribe if this is not what they are looking for? That way I could start off fresh in moving forward with promoting offers to them.

I do this from time to time.

I often find sending a pretty blatant sales pitch to your list the day after a "clean up" works well.

      Why?

I guess just because people who decide to stay on your list after you've asked them to unsubscribe, are people who genuinely are interested in what you have to sell.

Always keep your list processed for hard bounces and spam complaints. Make use of such email marketing software capable of doing so.

Are you using the double opt-in method to gain subscribers? Usually double opt-in lists are quite safe. The other thing that sometimes triggers spam complaints is when a subscriber was expecting a certain type of info from a particular niche but now you send them all kinds of offers from various niches. Some people don't like that and instead of unsubscribing they hit the mark as spam button.

Thanks for the responses. I started using double opt-ins on a few different lists. Definitely seeing more real buyers doing that.

You can build sub-list to know what your main list like more - like some like topic A and some like more topic/niche B - so you dont lose the users and can send them what THEY want

there are some list hygiene software, will remove hard bounces and spamtraps. I'm using verias.com.
Also you would want to run some filters to keep only engaged subscribers. in active data will cause trouble to you. you don't wanna have that.

Use your spam filter on the autoresponder. It will show you a spam number Keep it low as possible. I also cannot understand people that join your list then try to get you banned. But I have had no problem when keeping my spam filter very low.

Its just a fact that you will face with list building is that there is going to be people that click the spam button.. sucks but there are idiots out there that opt in.

Some tips you can do are..

    - use your full name as the from name. don't use slick nick names. or company names. you want to brand your name.

    - at the end of the email include a reminder they opt in and the website they opt in from.

    - other tips for cleaning your list is.... delete all the unsubs and bounces. and monthly delete all the no opens that do not open your email in last month or so.

I don’t receive any complaints at all. I know plenty of them out there won’t read my email but I keep on giving away free products to win them back. If anyone of them did not read more than 3 emails I will remove them from the list. Furthermore, I need to check on the email stats regularly by making sure my subscribers are active. I hope this help.
