Giveaway product - eCourse or eBook?

Hi guys.
Through the last year or two I have been building a list which I have never made use of. I feel like I have been procrastinating long enough, and now is the time to take action. As of today, my list is around 4000 single opt-ins.
My biggest issue is finding a decent product to give away, and I'm not sure which approach would be better; an eBook on day 1, or an eCourse over a span of days?

As far as finding a good giveaway product, I have been looking for a PLR product. I want to give away something of real use, but I'm not the big writer myself.

What's your take on this?

    My initial thought was that if I provide my subscribers with something of real use, that could possibly make them money, I will gain their trust. All my opt-ins are in the MMO niche.
    But I see your point (if you were trying to make one): Usually you provide a free product in exchange of an opt-in - in this case I already have the opt-in.
    How else would you suggest me going about with this? How should I approach my subscribers since they may very well have opted-in more than 1 year ago, and could possibly have forgotten all about it?

      I would suggest trying to re-establish the relationship again. Send them emails, make the connection again. See how many are active. My worry is if you get to selling or even give them free product, they might not even open the email, because like you said, it was more than 1 year ago and they might have forgotten about opted in your list, and just take your email as spam....

      I am no expert in mailing list nor email marketing. But that is what I would do....

    Your biggest issue is that your list is mostly dead. What are the chances of those people remembering you, one or two years later? Almost zero. They won't even open your emails, let alone want to buy from you - a total stranger in their eyes.

    My recommendation is to not even bother with that list - start a new one and "maintain" it. When people say money is in the list, they refer to the relationship you have with your list. But if you don't communicate with your list, the relationship becomes stale.

    Think of it this way: if you had a friend you haven't seen in two years, but all of a sudden calls you up to ask for money, what are the chances of helping him? Slim, I guess. But if we were talking about a friend you see weekly, the chances would seem a lot better, wouldn't it?

    The problem with PLR products is that there are chances these people would have seen it before. That's beside the fact that most PLR products are pure crap.

    So write it yourself and make sure it offers something difficult to find someplace else. If you can't, hire a writer - there are plenty on the Internet.
