The Success Of The List

Everywhere you read it says "get a list". What I like to know is how successful can people be with a "list". From my personal experience in subjects that I have an intetest in, I sign up (less so in the last few years) knowing I am going to get hammered on my email but never buy anything. I might check out the occassional email these people send but not be fanatic about it.

So the questiom is do you need a list with like 10k subscribers or something to really make it with this technique?

I prefer a large Facebook following to a "list" because I can be guaranteed that my fans will see my post, even if I have to "boost" it. There are no guarantees with an email list.

I know, it's blasphemy to suggest this but it's simply what I've experienced.

Yeah, you might not buy anything but even if it's 5% to %10 that do, it can be very profitable

Creating a list is one thing, maintaining it is a whole different thing. Like anything, it depends on how good you are. Some people are plain bad at writing emails, others are fantastic.

The idea of an email list is that you can contact them pretty much whenever you want. But if you can achieve the same thing in other ways - see Wolfmmiii's post just above - then you stand to make more money than just by having a blog alone.

Building an email list works better than having a visitor come to your site, then leave without giving you any way to contact that person in the future.

After all, in a lot of markets most people only buy something after multiple exposures to it, so having an email list gives you a channel to maintain contact with a potential customer and close the sale.

Of course, how much money you make from your list depends on both your relationship with the list and also how well you can sell (or at least pre-sell).

That will help determine how "big" your list needs to be to make a decent income; there are some marketers who make 6 figures a year from a list of less than 2,000 subscribers.

    Regards,
    Daniel

At some point I was making around $7000 per month and I had ZERO person on my list.

Yes, having a list is great, but this is not the only way to make money online.

I've been monetizing purchased data(email) for 16+ years by heavily promoting PPL(pay per lead) offers. So I don't have to sell a thing (no credit card required to complete an offer) and can generate $20-$60 (higher depending on the vertical) a pop on offers that have mass appeal to the general population. So conversions are typically much higher than offers that require and purchase and the potential to generate high volume exists.

While a purchased list will never be anywhere near as responsive as a list you build yourself. You compensate it with large volume, which can be obtained much cheaper and faster than you could ever build. Then you clean, prune and segment it into a smaller, but responsive list.

You combine it all and it can be extremely profitable.

The "list" has really lost a lot of it's meaning on people unfamiliar with the basic principles of marketing.

List-building as a stand alone activity is a creation of the Internet and marketers' tendency to "spin" concepts for the easily amused.

In the good old days you would have a product or service to sell. You would advertise said product or service to targeted prospects. When someone responded to your advertisement you would write down their name and address when you sent them your brochure or catalog.

If they ordered they would be transferred to your buyers list. If they didn't order in a specific period then you would re-mail them with your offer.

These names could also be rented to other marketers again and again, and marketed to with related products.

To build a responsive list you have to have something people are willing to give up their email to get and feel it's a fair exchange.

A list is good because you can get residual traffic from it. Once someone is on your list, you can send them offers and emails anytime you want.

The real secret is to get new subscribers everyday and do this day in a day out.

Also, give them value and don't try to promote and promote and promote all the time.

You are 100% correct when you say that people are always bombarding their list with 'buy this' emails…which is the worst thing you can do!!

Email marketing is by far the best form of online marketing…when done correctly! Which, what you want to do is get your list to know, like and trust you. Once they know, like and trust you, they will be more likely to buy from you when you throw an offer at them. To make this happen is actually extremely easy…

When someone opts-in to your list, they should receive a 'welcome' email introducing yourself and what they can expect to gain from you. Send them some content (not sales) to get them in the habit of opening your emails. After about every 4-5 content emails( which will paint you as the authority on that niche), then offer them a product to buy. Since you're the authority for that niche and they know you're actually trying to help them, you'll be able to make many more sales than someone who just harasses their list with sales and promo emails.

And on a side note, since I don't personally have time to sit there and try to come up with fresh, new content all the time, I've actually started outsourcing that aspect on Fiverr! I was lucky to find this gig that gives you 3 unique articles for just $5! You can check it out here if your interested: https://www.fiverr.com/awesomeabs5/provide-3-original-content-articles

I hope that helps and good luck!

NOPE absolutely not. I've made $10,000 in 24hrs with a list of a few hundred.

Its all about value. Provide massive value & your 'small list' will be more valuable then that of a guru's list.

An example is the average online marketer's 1 subscriber is worth $1 per month, even if you suck.

Russell Brunson on the other hand every subscriber is worth an extra $64 per month.

There's a slight difference in the value of each of those persons list.

Lesson? Provide huge value. Never stop giving to your list. The law of reciprocation will pay you back in full circles soon enough.

Ask for a sales 5-10% of the time.

This conditions people like yourself who only read the odd one here or there that you truly want to help. That you truly wish to see this person succeed.

Not just have you on their list so they can sell you the latest gismo (product floggers!).
