Email List Building - Dead or Not?

With the new breed of digital marketers getting into social media, many people wonder whether email list building is dead or in hiatus. Email marketing, despite the emergence of varied media platforms is still considered the holy grail of internet marketing.
Email list building is usually done by offering a hook or freebie like free ebook downloads samples, infographics, reports, or video tutorials in exchange for a sign up. This maneuver is referred to as call-to-actions.

Even the giants of the virtual industry like Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, and Twitter build up their email lists and also send out emails to followers. These are multi-billion dollar companies that prioritize email list building. If the key players in the industry are taking the lead, then all the rest should be able to follow through.

Here are top 3 reasons why you should implement email list building:

1) Create brand awareness. There is no better way to communicate with your audience than email. This is a personalized way to build rapport and trust with your subscribers. You also generate more social shares by way of email marketing as you send subscribers tips and helpful information on a regular basis. These are valuable information that your consumers find worthy of sharing to their networks which captures attention and generate more traffic conversions.

2) Drive immense traffic. It is easy to drive generous traffic or link juice to your website with the use of email marketing. Email subscribers are able to convert consistent traffic without even making use of traditional SEO. This can drive instant traffic to your website, social media sites, and other partner sites online.

3) Sell products and services. Research suggests that around 93% of online users prefer brand interaction via email. This means that most subscribers appreciate being offered or sold something with the use of email rather than social media. Some people don't convert easily but this does not mean that they won't buy tomorrow or in a couple of days. The consistency and personalized approach of email marketing makes it easy to get more traffic conversions.

Email marketing is neither dead nor in hiatus - it is continuously evolving to adapt to the shift and trends of the internet and consumer behavior. In comparison to the social media platform, email list building gets you rapid traffic conversions. Your business needs to tap into a wider net online with the use of email marketing. Creating a strong virtual presence is crucial to getting a large slice of the internet pie and dominating the virtual scene.

Much like snail mail , email marketing will remain relevant for a long while. Of course snail mail wasn't like it was 30 years ago but still profitable to those who know what they are doing

Nice informative post. I tell most people that email list building will be one of the longest lasting models in the IM world.

With social media the problem is that to much control is in the hands of the people that own the social media network rather than if you took the time to build an email list you would have something that you control for as long as you run your business.

I couldn't agree any more! You run the show when you have your own email list. Where as in social media, you are limited to many things.

This is a real common myth I see repeated in IM. It's like their are no third parties involved in email marketing.

You really have just as much 'control' in email marketing as you do in social:

Aweber could go out of business

Yahoo or Google can change what they allow into their email boxes.

          People can change email

People can give dummy email addresses

Yes but what are the odds that:

            - Aweber could go out of business
            - Yahoo or Google can change what they allow into their email boxes.
            - People can change email

As for "People can give dummy email addresses". Yes it's true in some cases. Nevertheless they are still ways to beat around it. Like send the emails as a series or something.

There's a reason that why email marketing still works pretty well

              Really what a pathetic rebuttal.

How likely is Facebook to go out of business. Is it more likely Facebook will go out of business or aweber - exactly

Google change all the time or did you not see the promotions tab they introduced?

Hey there! If you built your email list, I would suggest not to give away emails to others as when they subscribed to you, you had promised that you wont give away their emails. That is not a good practise.

However what you can do is, you can sell solo ads. Prices depends on the quality of the list.

      Hope I helped!

I think email marketing is beneficial for the offers and some new scheme. If you have any offers on the website then you can create mailer to promote. People will directly grab the information about an offer and click on the mailer.

    A list is an asset.

    I agree with everyone here.

E-mail list building is FAR from dead. It is still the main way that money is made online.

Think about it, people buy from those they know, love, and trust. You build that up through consistent e-mails (even if they're in an autoresponder).

I would also be looking at texting to phones as another list building opportunity. THAT will be the next big wave, as people are MUCH more likely to read your text than your e-mail these days.

    All the best,

    Pat

Email marketing will be alive as long as the government doesn't start taxing it. Or over-regulating it.

It will outlast any of us. Because all humans who use the Internet have an email address; the entire Internet is based upon having an email address.

I dont think email marketing is in any kind of danger. If you provide value and lots of high quality content to your subs, then you have nothing to worry about.
    Its a great post btw!
