A list of 2 million...wow! That's a gold mine. I would encourage you to start creating an autoresponder and start building a relation with them and then start sending some offers through broadcasts...

I know everyone says there is money in the list. Hell, I'm even trying to start a list for my offline business. So I can start marketing online.Do people really make good money from a list? Say someone puts in an email and then confirms the link. What are the odds of selling them from the list? I have seen all kinds of numbers.I'm looking to get leads from my list but say I don't close that lead in person or over the phone. What is the chance to sell them a similar product via email in the future?

Take this, I sell security,fire and home automation. I follow up and I'm not able to close the deal for whatever reason. So I email them a different product they might be interested in. Is the list really worth it?

First, try to understand the interest of the your collected email list. Did that 2 million email list come on a CD-ROM and cost you $40 from Ebay?
I suggest you mail it as fast as you can and see what happens with your servers and esp accounts, and how quickly spamhaus gets a hard on to come and find out who you are.
In this case, bigger is not always better.

Conversions were like 1:10k-1:100k from experience prior to can spam. I'm sure it's worse now and deliverability will be terrible.

Debt relief, weight loss, other mass spammed offers. You'll get a few takers if your copy is persuasive enough.

Read before you mail, though. It will cost you quite a bit in legal fees to clean that mess up, if you screw it up bad enough.

The best thing you could do here is to re-package the CD-ROM nice and neatly, and list it back on ebay.com for $40 dollars and try to get your money back from some other sucker who things they will have a goldmine from purchasing it.

Sounds like you bought the list somewhere. There are major influencers who are not even close to 1 million subs let alone 2. There's a good chance that they are bot emails.

How did you get this list? Is it in an autoresponder system or is it on Excel or some database program? Unless it's in an autoresponder it can be tricky to deal with, however if it's in an autoresponder, I would give it a short left right and centre but very tactful, like send them a survey and find out what exactly they may want to receive from you after coming clean and introducing yourself in a very credible way with any link or offer first.

Have a list of options of things you can do for them so they can make different selections so you will know how to segment the lists to those who would have responded, I want to believe out of 2m some would.

Yeah, I don't know about this one...Having a list that big is exactly why we are all on this site. Sounds a little skeptical to me. Give me 200K of them that actually opted in and I'll be retired in a few months. However, if you actually do have that big of a list.....you need to join as many business opportunities as you can and start raking it in.

For the past 6 years I have owned and operated my own media and promotional business... 2 years ago I began doing some lead generations on behalf of a few associated brands. I have amassed an email contact list close to 330k (health and wellness, music and entertainment, financial services). I know that there are other businesses that would find my database useful but I'm unsure as to reach out to them. I built this database myself... these leads were not purchased and is comprised of mostly customers and about 5k publications and websites. Any advise?
